Remington 7400 versus 7600 Magazine

other than the hold-open device in the auto the REMINGTON mags are identical- provided they are the same caliber- they're actually all 30-06 mags, but the 308 sizes have a filler in them

all you have to do is trip the button on the bottom left side of the mag to bypass this-conversely if you stick a 760-7600 mag in a 742, 740, or 7400 she puts the round into the chamber RIGHT NOW- apparently you're SUPPOSED TO PUSSY FOOT the chambering of rounds in this gun- put the round in the chamber through the ejection port, then trip the bolt release( the hold open device) and EASE THE BOLT FORWARD- SO SAYS THE MANUAL, then on safe, eject the mag , and fill the mag, and then put it back in the gun- I'VE NEVER DONE IT THAT WAY- just like the m14, i chamber right off the mag by tripping the bolt rlease and letting it fly

I guess the Remington lawyer is worried about a slam fire. But my expereince with automatics is that the chamber should be loaded with the bolt slamming home, to make sure it locks up all the way.

I prefer to load it by stripping the round from the mag. I rekon that this is a final check that everything is working properly and might be easier on some model extractors.

One thing to watch out for. I have a 10 shot mag I use on my 7600 in service rifle matches. It would be illegal in my semi-auto.

The 10 rounder would be illegal to hunt with in either gun.

From the 2008-2009 Hunting regulations:

"Under the Criminal Code of Canada you cannot possess
any clip/magazine that holds more than five shots for a
semi-automatic centre fire rifle unless that clip/magazine
has been specifically exempted, pursuant to the Firearms
Regulations."

I would have to agree that it would be permitted in the 7600.

you could also put a spacer of some kind in that mag so you can only run 5- if it's at all like the 1 have, it's a single stack that hangs down like a 20 rounder, and like all ram-lines, doesn't feed worth ####e- factory mags are far superior

Oh, my mistake, I thought it was nothing over 5 shots no matter what action. (except Lee Enfields)

there's actually a bunch of exemptions- the garand for 1, b/c it uses an enbloc clip of 8 rounds- it won't work without it- however, HUNTING regulations may differ from province to province- but the 5 round rule applies to SEMI-AUTOMATICS ONLY-pumps,bolts, and levers are not limited - that's why you see 10 shot 94 winchesters- a lot of store clerks and the general public think it applies to everything= YOU ARE NOT ALONE

A spacer would only cut it if it were Permanently installed.
