remington 742 barrel swap

Just wondering if there would be any issue with swapping a 270 barrel onto a 30-06 receiver on Remington model 742 , my 270 receiver is acting up and I so much like the 270 more than the 30-06

Would need to check headspace with go/nogo gauges. Why not fix the issue instead?

I had a smith change a barrel on 760 and there were differences in the barrel extension over the years that caused issues. I know, it's not the same, but if you believe what this guy has to say, there were barrel thread differences depending on when the part was manufactured. Not a big deal if the parts are of the same vintage.

I’ve done several swaps due to chattered, unfixable receivers. No difference in action lengths. Issues may arise from eras of manufacture as has been pointed out.
