Remington 742 opinion

i have a rifle in 308 win- had it since 75, and it's taken more than its fair share of game- it's my back-up to my savage 99- still seems to keep on ticking-

I'm not convinced it was broken in the first place. ;)
I like bolts just as much as any other, but the pumpgun offers a very real alternative to the semi auto. :)

Pumps handle well, come with a detachable mag, are accurate and reliable, and don't cost an arm and a leg. Ya can't say that about a semi from Remington.

Pumps & semi's....... meh!

Not as popular out here where I'm at.

Well, not as much as bolts & levers..... ;) :p

742 30-06

I have a 742BDL with a Monte Carlo Stock 30-06, have had it for 30 years. Shoots great, 1 to 1 1/2 inch groups. No kick at all. Rarely Jams. Better quality than the new stuff. Quick second shot. A fun gun to take to the range. I have enough bolt guns, semi's are a nice change.

Wow!!
Thanks for the replies guys! I had my friend over here earlier and he went home with a lot to think about!
I must admit, I am not to convinced about this weapon and I think he is going to get a gunsmith to give it a once over before he decides to buy. From what I have heard it is coming from an old guy who is selling out of the hobby. I personally am trying to talk my buddy into a good full wood 303 enfield................... :p

Thanks for the input fellas, most appreciated!

Buddy, don't think of it as a weapon unless you're fighting with it. Elwood epps is selling M305s at a great price if you're looking for an auto loading hunting rifle that can double as a weapon.

I have a 7400 in 308 it is reliable if kept clean and if you use remington ammo, the magazines for them suck i have had 2 that caused jams but luckily there cheap. I'm selling it though that's a decent price but i wouldn't recommend this rifle.
