Question ,
Can I take a left handed safety on a Remington 742 and turn it around and make it a right handed safety ?
Or can I get a different one and have it replaced ?
Thanks in advance

Check the location of the hole for the safety detent. If it is right of centre, a standard right hand safety button will solve your problem.
If the hole is left of centre, the easiest thing is to acquire a used trigger group that has a right hand safety. They should be available from any gunsmith shop at a reasonable cost.

Smoji knows what he is talking about.
I have used trigger assemblies if needed. May even have a right handed safety.
I've modified the regular right handed housings in the past to equip the 742 for a left handed shooter.

Can anyone recommend a gun smith near Durham region who has experience with the 742?
I have the 30-06 model and am having issues after I fire my first round. I thought it was a magazine issue but now I think it is something serious.

PM me please with details.

Failure to feed issues.

At first it thought it was a faulty magazine but after replacing it with a new one from cabelas I am still having the same issue.
Once I fire off one round, the magazine empties itself tossing the other rounds on the ground, and gets stuck (new one). I believe something might be bent or not set properly.
When comparing the two magazine side by side you can notice the metal slowing being shaved on the new one and the wear and tear on the old one.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Is it worth my time and money to fix?

Please keep in mind this rifle was handed down to me and I do not have much money invested into it.

I can email pics of what I am trying to explain.

Cheers

These rifles had 4 different (IIRC) magazine releases available, which would sit the magazine higher or lower in the receiver. As some may lead you to believe, a new magazine is not a drop in fit.
