Remington 760 Gamemaster Rifle VS Carbine

From what I know the standard barrel length is 22" on a 760 30-06 and 18" on a Carbine.

Are there any other differences between the 2 variations ?

A 760 arrived in today's mail from an auction I won.

I had assumed it was a standard length rifle I had bid on, but a Carbine length has arrived.

After fees and taxes, I think I did OK on the $600 price as I believe all things being equal the Carbine is worth a few hundred more.
It also came with an extra magazine, case, Remington branded leather Cobra sling, and a cheap Barska Hunt Master 3-12x50

My main question is if there's any difference between the two models.

Barrel code is DG, so I think that translates to September 1986.
The rear site is missing, that will cost $100 to replace.

The forestock , if original, indicates it was definitely NOT made in 1986. But having said that,I think you did very well. I would myself like to own one.

Barrel code is DG, the next year 'G' is used was 1960.

Contact some gunsmithing shops. Probably have a rear sight assembly in a bin. Lots of these got removed when scopes were mounted. Should be less than $100.
Incidentally, you got yourself an excellent hunting rifle.

Should be a 18.5" barrel. There is a regular factory sight ramp that goes on the barrel and also a peep sight that mounts on the receiver. 1960 likely wasn't drilled and tapped from factory.

That looks like a nice unit for an older rifle. Way back when,I had a 760BDL custom carbine in .308Win that I sold when I was in a pinch during a divorce. I've regretted it ever since.

My buddies 760 30-06 carbine with 180 grain ammo has a velocity just under 2500 f/s... with factory Winchester ammo. He shoots it as fast as a semi.

Apparently there was a period in the 50's where some were
D & T and some were not, and by the 1960's all were.

In the Shooter's Bible for 1954, Remington makes a distinction between the 760A and the ADL in that the ADL has a "high comb stock for use with telescopic sights; receiver drilled and tapped for telescope mounts". Sounds like in the early days some were and some were not.

Sept of 1960 when it was born, one of 43,948 made up to 1980, so it's also a first year model as introduced in March/60.
I have 5 of the carbines 270, 280x2, 308 and 06 and still looking for the .35Rem Carbine but only 456 produced so highly unlikely
to ever find one in Canada.
