Remington 760 in 257 roberts

Sealed a deal on a 760 in 257 roberts. Have never used a 257 roberts before. What are the pros and cons with this caliber? Any opinions on this caliber would be appreciated..

pros woodchucks to whitetails the 257 Roberts seals the deal cons I have yet to find any and I am on my second one
 
I have one in a winchester featherweight xtr in a bob have had it for close to 30 years taken many deer and island beer with it guy before me take an roosevelt elk with it, was to little for to much but did the job. same brass as a 7 x 57 look into all the different game that cal has taken. the 25 cal in under rated for any thing with in 300 yards enjoy will never sell mine coming to the grave with me.
 
Nice find! The .257 Roberts is a great caliber. It has been overshadowed in terms of popularity by the .243 but I personally have a soft spot for the .257 Roberts. No noticeable recoil and sufficient for varmints to medium game. Have one in a BLR and it is real nice to shoot. Been looking for a 760 in .257 Roberts for some time. PM me if you ever want to sell it.
 
There are no true cons, except that it is marginal for elk and moose. I have four of them, Win 70 Fwt, Ruger Hawkeye, Rem 700 CDL SF and a Browning A-Bolt. I want to thin my herd but I think so highly of the Roberts I hate to part with any of them.
 
The 25 and 35 bores are the unappreciated step children of rifles. Very few popular calibers; therefore, components and ammo can be uncommon to impossible to find.

Owning a 257 roberts makes you one of three things, a ammo hoarder, someone looking into becoming a reloader, or a reloader. Nice deer gun.
 
Just acquired a Ruger M77 Tange Safety 257 Roberts in a trade. My plan is to sell it, but I’m going to shoot it first and we all know what happens next!
 
I've owned a 257 Roberts for about 20yrs now. Mine is a 700 faux TI long action that was barreled by the late Bevan King. Mine was a bit fussy on bullets but I did get a vg load with 100gr SP Hornadys and IMR4831. 7lbs topped with a Leupold 2.5-8 and fits me very well.

I consider the 275Roberts about perfect for deer hunting, but there are a whole list of very able similar chamberings out there as well. Ammo and brass can be problematic which would make the 6.5CM and the 243 a better choice from a practical standpoint. The 3" OAL fit better in a long action.

Congratz on finding that rare bird. That's an Uber Fudd Classic right there. You'll need some 117gr RNs for that. :)

Did it come with the proper mag?

I have a M70 Featherweight and a M77 ultralight, The M77 is finicky but shoots close to MOA with 100 grain Speer hot cores,
The M70 does 5 shot cloverleaf’s with 117 RN’s. I shoot a lot of necked down 7x57 brass, no issues.
 
I have an unfired Ruger Model 77 Ultralight in 257 Bob. Not sure of value but any advice would be appreciated. I intend to reduce my personal collection in the future. Thanks.

Still have the 760 Bob and she has proven herself as a deer slayer. They don’t argue with those 117gr pills!!!

I'm surprised they still offer those bullets considering all the others they have stopped making.

They don't offer the 100gr SPs anymore. My rifle loves them.

These are some I’ve had on hand for a very long time. Still have a couple boxes.
Sooner or later I will run out and the search will begin again for a bullet the old girl likes.
 
I have a Winchester Model 70 fwt in 257bob, I have a stash of 100gr winchester silvertips that seem to work pretty well for WT.
