I just bought a 35 Whelen 7600 with Bushnell 3x9x40 scope for $550. The gun is in great condition. Did I get a good deal?

Is it a Carbine and if so is it a "Factory" Carbine or was it chopped down?
I recently paid top dollar for a NIB Factory Carbine ...But then again we all know how rare those are to find....eh Tikka:p:p:p

its not a carbine. it has a regular 22" barrel.

I have never reloaded so I will probably stick with factory ammo. It came with a box 200g Rem Core-lokts and a local dealer has many more boxes in stock. I am going to use it this year for whitetails so I'll stick with the 200s.

If you get the chance handle one in Carbine....Handle's twice as nice as the 22inchers!!!

200 Grainers Great choice for deer only, But I Went With The 250 Grainers As An All Around Round!!!

Yes as described you got a very good deal IMO.

Around here a used stripped down basic 7600 rifle alone in 35Whelen in good condition will routinely sell for 625 - 675. They can be found on EE, and at gun shows etc. when you bide your time - but usually not if you are in a hurry for one.

If you get the chance handle one in Carbine....Handle's twice as nice as the 22inchers!!!
Not gonna happen Wonsky - only a few specimens in the country as you know. No future in dangling that carrot in front of his nose - unless you want to sell him yours.

Scary story:

My buddy and his brother have the identical same 7600's, even wearing the same scope and slings. Anyways, one was leaving the moose camp last year and took his brothers gun by accident. Then they went hunting at different areas the next weekend.

To shorten his story up, one was in 35 Whelan and the other a 30-06. One brother jammed a 35 cartridge in the chamber and the other took about 5 shots with 30-06 rounds down the 35 W barrel. Both guns were cleaned and still working.

That could happen with any cal in the 7600's, the actions are all the same from .222 to .35whelen...

Yes, you got a good deal ... don't care for that scope though, at least
for the bush I hunt in.

I put a Leupold VX-II 1-4 on mine in QR Ext. Low mounts.
Very compact, wide field of view and very fast.
