My Remington 7600 is missing its front and rear sights, so I'm considering what options I have to add backup iron sights using the existing holes or scope base.

My preference is for a receiver/peep, so one option is to buy a Weaver-compatible peep sight (e.g., XS or NECG), but I'm not keen on the idea of trusting that it will properly return to zero should I need to remove the scope. I'd prefer an iron sight solution that can coexist with the mounted scope.

I saw an interesting example on a Marlin where a Williams sight is installed along with a scope:

My current scope setup is a Weaver rail and low Zee-rings. The scope location is perfect for me, so I don't think the above solution is possible:

So I'm probably going to have to stick to using a standard barrel-mounted rear sight. Of the choices available (e.g., Remington factory or aftermarket), does anyone have a favourite? I've also thought about the older Remington 700 leaf sight as it looks to be lower-mounted than the new-style, but I'm not sure if the screw spacing has changed.

If you are only shooting short distances with the irons, there used to be rings with irons on the top of them. I can't recall the manufacturer but perhaps some more astute Nutz can.
