saw a commercial for the remington 770 this morning, apparently you don't even need to sight it in as it comes from the box shooting dead centre, just a little high (nice tight groups too).

I recall years ago Savage ran a magazine add along the same line for their 99's; a guy outside of Thunderbay went out and killed a moose with the first round ever fired out of the gun. I didn't approve of that add, nor would I approve of any similar add by anyone else.

There can be a world of difference between "perfect" and "can't make it work any better than this."

So who is going to try one for a CGN review...

They do not look to bad on teh video, I never handled one, never even seen one until you guys posted the thread.

Are they even available to look at

I owned a rem model 770 243win,,,,the scope that comes with it,,is a little cheesey,,,,the bolt action was very sloppy,,,sometimes hard to retract cartidges,,,,but with a barrel de-resonator,,and winchester 80 grain,,,it alway's shot sub moa,,,traded her in for a rem 700 sps varmint 22-250,,,and the bolt action is way better,,,and shoot's even better,,,but none the less,,they still are a good shooter,,with a better scope,,,just my .02 cent's

I know a guy who has a 710, 30/06. He has shot 2 bull elk and a bull moose and about a half dozen deer with it. Every time I remark about the ugly POS:puke: and tell him if he does not get rid of it, he should at least buy a decent scope?............He says I am a gun snob:confused:

Isn't the 770 just the 710 renamed?

It's not exactly the same, but not very different. Certainly the most significant change was the name. The main problem they were trying to solve was that the 710 got such a slagging amongst enthusiasts it was leaking out to the uninformed novices who were the target market.

It was marketed as an affordable entry level rifle that other than a final sighting was ready to to. In most cases, it did that well. In most cases it was well into suitable hunting accuracy and out of the box often as good if not better than some more expensive guns from the same manufacturer. You get what you pay for and the 770 is a good example of that.
