remington 770

I thought that the 710 would be a good starting
rifle for my son, what a mistake so far I have fired 2 boxes of ammo through
it and had to replace the firing assy and also had the whole bolt come out of the rifle while trying to cycle it "POS".

this is what happens when someone makes a bolt stop out of plastic.
i still dont understand WTF they were thinking. it would have cost what, 10 cents more to make it out of metal?

people need to keep that in mind when they are considering buying one of these: that EVERY single aspect of the gun has been pored over by an entire team of people who are trying to save pennies per gun in manufacturing cost. whereas production cost is generally balanced with strength, durability, reliability in other gun designs, 'cheap manufacturing' seems to be the sole criteria for the 710/770 design.

well I cant say I "love" my 710 but it does work every time i pull the trigger and at 100 yards it shoots 1" groups pretty much every time as long as i do my part. however I do agree that it isnt the best gun and some are worse than others or i just really look after my s**t well

yup i agree the stevens 200 is best bang for your buck! s.i.r. cabelas has them on now for $300 plus tax, which is down from $330 last yr (ya just cant beat that, $300 for a new rifle) i have one in 22-250 w/ 3-9x40 3200 elite for winter yote huntin and absolutly love the thing. extremly accurate (and others claim the same) might not look and feel like a $1000 rifle but for under $400 shipped to your door how in hell could ya go wrong!!

I had a 710 in .30-06...for about 3 hours. I took it to the range shot 10 rounds through it, on the 10th i went to rack the bolt and it flew out the back end and hit me in the face! Took it back they said they'd "fix it". Went out the next day with it...did the same thing. I went in the shop dropped it on there counter and demanded a refund. Then I picked up a Savage 111F in .300RUM, very good quality for the price and shoots as good as I can aim hhaha. Not my first cartridge of choice so I later bought a Remington CDL SF .30-06 and love it as well...but im gonna do soemthing with the Savage, eventually.
