Remington 770?

have one in 270 never a problem with it but it is a 300 dollar gun if you read the reviews it seems like 7 out of 10 say it is a worth while piece of kit.a deer out of the box kinda a thing
 
Im a huge remington fan but I'd steer clear of the 710 and the 770. As much as it pains me to say it, look at the savage instead.
 
I have one in .308. Two deer down and no problems. It will put three 150 gr. federal blue box into a quarter at 100 yds. Most people who have never owned one will tell you it's junk. I like mine, but there are "better" guns out there in that price range. I got mine as part of a trade and I don't think I would go out and buy one.

Not to hijack this thread. I do not own a 770, but have owned other similar low end rifles such as the Savage Edge/Axis...to my utter dismay. For an extra hundred you could get a Marlin X series rifle that I know you would be very very pleased with, or spend a little more and take other people's suggestions in this thread.

Having said this, I am a big Remington fan and have a couple of 700s that are 'runners up'. :)

What the hell kind of reviews are you reading?

The Remington 770 is the second worst firearm currently sold. The worst is the Remington 710.

I would take a Savage Axis for only $20 more any day!

He certainly can not have read very many. It is a piece of junk, especially when compared to any other rifle within $50 in price.

Like others may say...It is a cheap rifle..Could it be better...He!! yeah...But I bought a .30-06 camo model back in 2006. Still have it..Use it as my bad weather/spare now..But I gotta say..The trigger on mine is great, light, crisp, breaks like glass and very consistant. It will shoot under an inch at 100 all day, (as said above, cover with a quarter easily) and I've shot several groups at 200 that went 1 1/2....This is with the factory supplied scope that it came with. The bolt could be smoother, but mines not nearly as bad as what some claim.

I don't think I'll ever sell it...but No, I wouldn't buy another.. I have one and thats enough.
 
Thanks for the info. I had a model 70 winchester classic featherweight and probably would only be satisfied with something like that for quality. The low price makes you want to jump though.
 
Had the 770 to the range today. Would ya know, she shoots 180 remington core lokts to the poi as 150 federals at 100 yds. That would be 3 touching with the forth usually about an inch low and to the right.

well look online it may not be your firearm of choice but i read about 20 reviews and like i said i think about 14 were good for what it is and that is a 300 dollar gun
it comes down to don't buy a chevy if you want a porsche
 
Redlich - It is special... taking your first big game animal with it makes it special... I took my first deer with a cooey 12 gauge single shot and a rifled slug... it was all I could afford and all my dad could afford to hand down to me... and I used it for rabbits and upland and for deer and ducks as it was ll I had.... guess what, I still have it... even if you don't want to pass it on to your son, look for an oppportunity to give it to someone in need.... believeme, it will be special to them....

As far as the reviews, they are mixed... In looking at hunting firearms I tend to read the user reviews on basspro cabelas etc.... these are hunters not gun fanatics or shooters... you will get the really reallys.....

Now, as for my opinion, spend a bit more and get yourself a remington 700 sps dm.... damn solidly built, tons of accessories and won't let you down.... you get what you pay for....
