Remington 770

Has anyone tried a Remington 770? A shop nearby has them on sale for $299 , was thinking it might be a decent rifle for the price.

Don't waste your money. It is an absolute piece of #### rifle. If you are looking for a decent entry level rifle, the Savage Axis or Stevens 200 is the best way to go.

X2. I had a savage edge before axis same rifle new name in 243 and it worked well.

My friend had a remmy 770 in 243 it was junk. If you tried to cycle the bolt faster than slow motion the bolt would jam and you would have to wiggle it to get it moving again. Also the bolt stop would work loose from recoil and then when you pulled the bolt back it would come right
Out.

After trying out my savage my friend traded his 770 in for an axis in 243

Even the golf forums talk smack about the 710's / 770's.

for +50 bucks you can buy a savage axis or Stevens 200......I think you'll be glad you did for + another 50 bucks you can buy a savage fxp11 or 111..... even better!!

I'd pass on the 770

The best entry level rifle, by quite a margin IMO, is the Marlin X7 series. That is the most common opinion on CGN I believe. Yes, I own one.

Well, if you only use it to hunt once a year and you don't shoot that much, and if you only have 299$, then maybe.

Otherwise, get an Axis

If Remington paid you $299.00 it still wouldn't be a good deal.as above look at the savage,stevens or marlin.
