Guy's,

I would like to remove the firing pin in my 783. Light primer strikes.

My question : Will the tool used for a Remington 700 work on the Remington 783 bolt shroud ?

They are very easy to remove, I was gonna make a video on disassembly, just did not have time. No need for special tools.

Get a piece of flat bar or angle iron, mount in a vise. Pull on the firing pin (underneath the shroud) and turn the shroud counterclockwise, about half turn and it will come right out. Unscrew the firing pin that’s it.

Guy's,

Thanks for the replies. I have some time and some coffee this morning. I actually used a piece of shoe string wrapped around a vise with a loop on the end to catch that lug sticking out.

I put a dab of white out where the cocking lug sits, so I know how far to turn it back or just line up the lugs by eye from the head of the bolt.

No visible signs of wear/contact. It just seemed I could move the firing pin spring rather easily by hand. I will install a stronger one if this cleaning does not work.

I can not find my firing pin protrusion gauge but the pin stick out quite a bit visually.

I still believe that a tool exists for this removal procedure.

NO special tools need to remove the firing pin assemble from the bolt... pull the cocking piece 'up', rotate the shroud counterclock wise until it pops... pull out. It is in the Rem manual.

To remove the firing pin from the cocking piece, just unscrew it... there are flats on the firing pin for the wrench.

Easy...
