Remington 783 varmint !!

I think the rem 783 are great for the price. if you are shooting factory ammunition you will have to try some different bullet weights and brands but you should have no trouble finding one to shoot sub moa 5 round groups.
 
I would expect the accuracy to be on par with all Remington barrels. I don’t suspect they put a lower quality barrel in a 783 vs 700. In my experience, you can expect 1moa or better depending on ammunition. The 783 I had in .243 was a shooter, as were all the Remington 700s in various calibers I’ve had.
 
I would go with a Savage instead but that's just me,
10x the aftermarket support if need be.
And my factory Savage HS precision I got on the EE for 600$, barely used, is grouping sub 3/4 moa 5 shot groups, not even fully load dev'd yet, which is really decent for it's price point!
 
Most reports have been pretty good on the 783, and I'm curious about it myself. Asking which rifle is best at the price point is always tough since everyone is going to have their own opinions. Go try a few out! The 783 I think is making a lot of positive steps forward for budget rifles. But the small aftermarket is an issue but its getting better. I have a Weatherby Vanguard right now as my budget gun and I've been pretty happy with it. Not sold on flat bottom actions though...
 
From what I have seen in Jerry's posts and blogs, the 783 can be as accurate as a custom with a barrel swap, which uses a barrel nut so no gunsmith required, only a vice a gauge and a wrench.
The platform has huge potential.

My last build I went another route than Savage because it didn't have as much aftermarket support as i'd want, and Savage has got quite some support over the years.
With the 783 I wouldn't be happy at all with the available stocks.

There's only Boyds, MDT Oryx, and MDT LSS I can think of.
 
Yup! Fair enough! Savage has a lot more aftermarket support for sure and is a great way to go. Yes, the 783 lacks in aftermarket stocks, at least MDT/Oryx offer chassis systems for them (Which I'm a huge chassis guy). And Timney is going to release a 783 trigger soon without the blade in the center of the trigger. Either way, both are great options it just seems to me that the 783 is developing as a platform and Remington is putting a bit more thought into them which is something I like. I've always loved the entry-level rifle market and it just fascinates me to see what people can do with an entry-level offering.

Lots of folks will have fun with the 783 Varmint units. The Remington site shows the current weight of 7.5 lbs for the base Varmint model, which ain't bad.
Pity that the 22-250 version is stuck with a 1 in 14" twist. :runaway:

I am a big fan of Savage, I have many in different configuration and they all shoot sub-Moa with good reload with factory and aftermarket barrel.

I have worked and shot some 783 in the last few months and I was more than impressed with the quality and simplicity of these rifles.

I will probably build a custom on a 783 in the near future, hope there will be more aftermarket component available soon.

I own a 783 heavy barrel with the adjustable trigger. I find it accurate and reliable in stock form. No, the stock will not win a beauty paegent, but it'll do .625" groups consistently with 68gr Hornady bullets on top of 23.4 gr. of Varget.
