I can't compare the 783 with the Axis, but I have a very accurate Savage model 11 in 243 and a very accurate 223 Vanguard and I'm very happy with both of them but my son's pre bankruptcy 783 laminate 26" HB in 22-250 is consistently more accurate than either of them whether it's shooting factory for the brass or with handloads it doesn't seem to matter it shoots everything very well. It's too bad they don't seem to be producing a 783 with a 26" barrel anymore but I know you don't need that extra length to get great accuracy
Ata turqua in walnut (stevens 334) is cheaper and light years better than both.
ATA version has iron sights and fully adjustable trigger.
It's not the size of your barrel or the length, it's how you use it. Or the fire of the attack!......![]()
Judging by all the reviews I've looked at, turqua may be a better bang for the buck than tikka. I haven't looked at one in person yet, but to say they are superior to tikka is a serious statement
783 is more equivalent to a Savage Model 12 target action when you look at it, with only a loading port cut out, much more rigid than an Axis.. 783 all the way. Axis is fine for a cheap hunting hunting rifle, but not equal to a 783.
