remington 812 16 gauge steel shot

Just got given a remington 812 16 gauge ran the numbers and it came up as being made in 77. I can't seen to find out anywhere weather or not it is alright to fire steel shot in it anyone know.

if it dose'nt have a full choke i'd have to say yes, i had an 812 in 28 gauge used it for partridge it had a full choke so i could only use lead whitch was fine for the purpose.

If it has a full choke get it opened up and go for it. Finding 16 gauge steel shot on the shelf might be another thing though.
