Remington 870 20 ga lock ring

I have an older 870 with the ball detent system on the barrel ring. I picked up a 26" barrel, sold my 28" one, and totally missed the fact that the new barrels no longer use the ball detent system. I know there is a wave washer, but my question for you shotgunners out there is can I use a normal lock washer to keep the barrel locking nut from working loose during shooting? I don't do a lot of birding and shooting with the bird barrel, mostly I use the rifled deer barrel where it's shotgun or muzzle loader only for deer. It's no biggie to just double check the lock nut once in a while when I'm using it, but it would be handy to make that a non issue.

I wouldn't be too concerned. There is very little stress on the barrel, and minimal vibrations to shake the cap loose. Just tighten it down snugly by hand and you should be fine.

As posted,just hand tighten the mag tube end cap.
Or
IF you're handy,the ball detent can be added to the Bbl lug

Can you switch to a newer style of mag tube nut and spring end cap with the teeth, they should be relatively easy to find I would think?
