Anyone else here purchase a new 870 recently? The reason I'm asking is because a young hunter I've been taking duck hunting for the last few years finally turned 18 and wanted to purchase a shotgun. He wanted my Browning Gold 3-1/2" but I said no so I told him to save a little money and get the 870 Express Super Magnum in composite. I figured the pump would be a little more versatile and more reliable.
Boy was I wrong! His 870 has a failure to eject the first round everytime he's had it out. It seams the brass is sticking in the barrel. I've taken his fired/stuck case and it fits my Browning with little trouble.
Now we're both using the Remington Nitro-Steel 3-1/2" shells and the Winchester Express 3" and 3-1/2" and he's getting the same problem with both ammo mfg's.
Funny thing is the 3" shells do not stick in my 3" 870 barrel.
Is it that the new Remington's have cheaply made barrels?
We took it back to Lebaron's where he purchased it and he was told it just need to be cleaned and it the problem happen again to bring it back for service. The gun has been used 3 time this hunting season so far, how dirty can it be. You should be able to throw it in the lake, pick it up and fire it without any problems.
Does this thing need the barrel reamed out?
