I an looking at getting a shorter barrel on my pump gun for bear protection.
Question - can a rifled barrel be used for shooting buckshot as well?
What are the effects, if any, on the rifling?

You can fire buckshot through a rifled barrel without harm but the pattern will be horridly scattered.

If you are using it for bear protection use a smooth bore. A rifled barrel will result in a large doughnut shaped pattern. I have a modified choke on my bear repellent and it shoots slugs and buckshot just fine.

I'd like either, mine wears a 12.5 but 14 would be fine with an extra shot... Maybe a couple percent less blast on firing too...
