So just picked up a new 870 dm tactical and now looking for half a dozen six round. And two three round mags but they seem to be like unicorns any one have a source

Where did you buy the tactical model, and how does it compare to the 'other' magazine-fed shotguns?

Ie, Mossberg and Norinco Grizzly-mag?

Furthermore, the rimmed shell retention "looks weak:" never having seen any 870 DM in the wild, I would love to know if the magazines are strong enough to handle a little abuse.

Cheers!

I bought it at ctcsupplies a site sponsor I have not handled the magpul version but did play with the plain synthetic with bead sight barrel and the mags seemed to be pretty well made but does not look like I will be takeing it out hunting anytime soon with lack of mags especially the 3 round ones

As for comparison to the Mossbergs I can’t say not a fan of the mossy 500 anything after haveing a brand new one blow up on me years ago thank god for shooting glasses. I did have a norinco magfed but did not keep it long. The Remington is well an 870 do I need say more my 870 tactical I have now has seen thousands of rounds and has been abused by me and has never missed a beat

Sounds good so far.

How are the mags?

Are they durable?

Cheers!

If the mags are easy to disassemble you can always take them apart and rig up something to put inside that can limit the mags to 2 rounds. Or even carefully drill a hole in the side of a mag and stick a bolt through it to temporarily block it for hunting. Still easy to remove when you're not hunting. At least that's how I would see myself doing it.
