Can anyone recommend a place that carries Remington 870 barrels? All the places I've contacted locally in Vancouver don't have any in stock, ie Reliable, Italian & Wholesale. Specifically I'm looking for
a new: Remington 870 12 Gauge 28" Vent Rib Express Barrel Model #26314. I'm looking for for a second barrel for a Remington 870 express tactical. I would prefer buying from some place around me but I'm also okay with ordering online as well.

For those with more knowledge are there going to be any issues with the 28inch blued barrel going on a 870 express tactical setup? My goal is to be able to have two barrels to interchange for home defense and target/hunting. Will the blued finish of the replacement barrel look off on the express tactical? Thanks in advance for your help.

The blued barrel will fit fine, and the blued barrels ('Wingmasters') come with 3 chokes and a wrench rather than just one choke and no wrench like the black 870 barrels, so if you take that into account the price difference isn't so bad.

They will not 'match' the finish of the receiver, but hey, my shoes don't always match my purse either! Your fashion sense may be more evolved than mine, tho ;)

Watch out if you try to buy used, 'take off' barrels do not always have (actually, these days usually do not have) the detent ball the tactical requires to attach and lock the barrel via the ratchet on the mag tube cap. Standard 870s and Wingmasters today use a ratchet inside the mag tube to lock the barrel, and barrels shipped with them usually lack the detent ball.

You might consider picking up a standard mag spring retainer, mag spring and mag cap as part of the exercise, as it is easier to swap than the tactical's mag tube extension with its two screw on bits and mag tube clamp. That way the mag tube clamp will not mark the new longer barrel either. Just make sure you get one with the appropriate ratchet to engage the detent ball on the barrel's mag tube ring.

I have the 870 tactical "blackhawk" model, and found out the hard way that all other 870 barrels will not fit tactical models. If your mag extension is built in, the barrel clamp will be further ahead on the 18.5" barrel. I too wanted a longer barrel for hunting, but you can thank remington for this incompatibility.

Thanks for the quick replies. So it sounds like unless I pick up the standard mag cap, retainer and springs any other remington barrel won't fit my express tactical? That's disappointing, it would be almost better just to buy another 870 express in that barrel length after all those costs :(

Cabela's stocks some barrels for Remington 870s. Some are genuine Remington, some are Mossbergs. (I.e. Mossberg makes barrels to fit Remington 870s and they tend to be priced lower than Remington's.)

No, you don't need the mag cap etc, they just make the swap easier. All in they are probably $30-40.

Thanks for helping out this noobie. Just so I have everything right, I can order the 28 inch barrel of Cabelas and still use the current express tactical mag extension and clamp, except it may scratch the new barrel? I appreciate the help!

Yup. Just get the extra bits if/when you tire of the fuss when swapping barrels. You can add a bit of electrical tape inside the barrel half of the mag clamp to cut down on the scratching in the meantime if you want.

No luck with cabelas online or off any of the advertisers links above. Anyone know of a place where you can order a remington 870 barrel express barrel that I'm looking for?

Try Dlask Arms. I bought the same barrel you are looking for years ago from them. They buy 870's to accessorize and add shorter barrels. The barrels they take off are for sale but I've never seen them posted on their website.
