Hi everyone. I'm pretty new here. I have a bit of a "question"

Are the Remington 870 Express (combo) a good quality shotgun? I've been looking at the combo thing.

I'm looking into getting a slug shotgun for next year. I'll be hunting deer and moose with it. Possably bear also. I also have a Remington .30-06 Autoloader. Just looking at a slug shotgun to try something different. Since I hunt thick bush and my shots are generally around 50 yards or less. I like the idea of the 870 combo, because I plan on trying to find someone to do some waterfowl hunting also.

the 870 is a great gun. i dont have much to compare it to, but i love my 870 marine magnum.
try holding diferent brands of shotguns. mossberg 500 also comes in a similar combo. pick wich ever points and feels the best. and whats in your buget.

Thank you for the reply :) I looked into that Mossberg combo, on their website, it looks nice also.

I just bought my Rem 870 Mag. Its a sweet gun. Very meat and potatoes. Easy to clean and disassemble. Great gun. I took 3 Canada's and two nice Mallards this morning with it. I really nice thing about it is the exchangable choke tubes. I just ordered a modified and full to go with my imp cyl. The full is even rated for steel. This should be great for longer shots at geese.

I just tried my 870 with slugs at 100 meters.
with just a plain bead i was able to hit the the target easaly (first shot hit the bulls eye, the other were pretty close). once you figure out how much of the bead you need to see, you can hunt with a slug out to 100 meters or maybe further, or so i figure.

I love 870's. I found that the fit and finish on my 870 Super Mag Combo were acceptable, but not up to that of my 870 Marine Magnum. Then again, I bought it to kill things with prior to eating them, not to hang on the wall and call art. And from a functionality point of view it's been flawless.

I've had a revolting amount of fun with both guns and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anybody. I think you'd have to try extremely hard to go wrong with an 870.

I have 2, 870 Wingmasters and an 870 express. The express is OK but I like my Wingmasters better. The barrels for the Express fit the Wingmasters so all is good. If you have an .30-06 why would you hunt moose with a shotgun?

I hunt thick stuff, figured a slug would plow through little twigs and stuff better than my .30-06.

I'm going to buy the combo gun I think, because I want to hunt birds, and I want to hunt deer, so the combo might be my best bet.

I think the 30-06 might be better for moose personally.

How ya doing TYE... the 870 Express is good value and the best quality entry level Combo. The Super mag is only a few bucks more and well worth it if your gonna hunt waterfowl or Turkeys.
Mossbergs are a little sketchy in the quality dept... but then again the Rems have had issues too.
