Hi,

I've had a problem with my 870 extracting 2 3/4" target Winchester ammo. Every 1 in 50 or so, I would have to hold the forend tightly while ramming the butt (barrel pointed upwards in a safe direction) into the ground. I don't like doing this, so any idea's? I've installed a S&J no jam follower, so the gun is pretty much stock. When the shell does extract, sometimes the rim around the case is bent.

I've tried searching this forum for similar problems, but I had no luck

Thanks for any help provided.

Do the sticking shells show any signs of overpressure? I had that happen once on a reload where the brass heated up and had to cool down before it would extract easily.

Very common problem with the express and cheap ammo. You can use better ammo or polish the chamber. If you look close at the chamber there is more than likely rough machining marks that are "holding" onto the spent shell.

I had to do that with my express barrel. Rough machining marks. So i polished the chamber, and have had no FTE's since using el cheapo ammo.

your follower wont have anything to do with FTE. A follower may be an issue is FTF is the problem.

As many have stated it sounds like the ammo.
The Winchester cheap stuff sticks in my 590, my 930 and my coach gun. They all hate it equally.

With my reloads (AA brass hulls) they all run like champs.
