Remington 870 Express Low Quality Control?

I'm in the market too for a shotgun and was looking at the 870 express tactical, but now i'm starting to think of something else. Seriously though I would only want to spend $500 max on one as it's not going to see as much use as my other guns.

What is still a good buy in shotguns?

F**k Remington.(The new ones.) A good, solid & reliable pump gun can be had in
the Mossberg 590 A1. ;)

If you find an older pre 1990's 870 at a decent price, then that's an option
as well. There's plenty of accessories available for both guns.

Keep an eye on the EE and you'll eventually find a good deal on a lightly used higher-end shotgun. I found my Benelli Supernova on the EE and paid around $560 including shipping, and it's just like a brand new gun. It was my first shotgun and I'm really happy with it. I was in the same situation when I started looking for my first shotgun and was torn between the Mossberg 500, Rem870, or spend a little more for a Benelli.. After receiving it I'm not looking back.

I picked up an 870 a month or so back. No finish issues whatsoever, it seems to scratch easy but other then that its a solid gun well worth the 310 dollars I paid for it.

Have 2 and they are fantastic. And I REALLY mean that.

Good to know, Mossberg it is.

Is it just me or does the 870 action seem to get sluggish and stiff after a couple hundred rounds wiuthout cleaning? This definitely happened with my DA Grizzly but it seems even my Wingmaster runs a little slower after a case of shells through it skeet shooting.

I bought the same one brand new a month ago. I love it. The finish scratches when you rack it and use it but it's a gun. It's not a damn corvette lol. Buy one

never had a problem with my grizzly... and I beat the hell out of it.
I did own an 870 express that I was less than impressed with though..

I have read a lot of negatives about 870 tacticals when looking to buy one, but I decided to go for it anyhow to try it. Maybe I was luckey but mine rocks, super solid and very nicely finished.

Not a real problem but it the action isn't as easy to run as my other pumps. I may try polishing the action bars or something.

I just got an Express and after a couple hundred rounds I'm pleased except for 2 gripes.
1. The shells don't extract with authority so they sometimes get hung up.
2. There is a little more play between the frame and the trigger group than I expected.

mine was pretty stiff for the first few days after I got it... until I oiled it well and then spent a few hours opening and closing the action... it smoothed right out (drove my wife nuts though lol)
