Remington 870 express now 299.99 at bass pro

ok

Ok sorry for bashing, I am just kind of old fashion that way. When I buy something new I expect it to work with out alot of tinkering an modifications.

It must be a certain year or batch of Express 870s that are getting this bad press because I have witnessed many first hand perform flawlessly.

I shot a shotgun only shoot at Napanee that was 140 rounds mixed with birdshot and slugs with my Express. Not one failure.

I'm sure most of them are ok. If someone is new, there's not better way for them to learn how to take apart a gun and do modifications and minor repairs than the old ugly pump.

I'm not trading in my browning and berretta anytime soon either, but I feel it's a great price for a simple gun for someone on a budget.

Step one, buy an 870 Express.
Step two, polish chamber.
Step three, install an 870P extractor.
Step four, shoot for thousands of rounds at a time without cleaning or jams using the cheapest possible ammunition.

Or maybe I'm just not picky.

Yep.
Step 4 refinish the gun so its stop rusting .

That step can be added for many of the guns I own especially brownings. The BPS are unreal to keep from rusting.

I have both, the 870 is way more rust prone that the BPS.

Mine must be different years or something since I have two 870 express a 28 and a 12 and BPS in 10,12,16,20 and 28 and I find especially the japan made bps will start to rust like crazy just from handling them and have to be cleaned and fully oiled after every hunt.
Opps I forgot my 12 3 1/2 camo. Even she has to be watched for rust under the vent rib on the barrel. May have something to do with all the salt in the air here also.I am like 1000 feet from the ocean and everything metal here rusts like crazy.

C'mon, it's a cheap gun for people on a budget, no need to rip on them for it.

I understand that many are on a buget and the express is an affordable price point. What Remington needs to understand is that there are a significant amout of those who have forked over what they could afford and have a gun that simply does not work. For those who have a beater that works, well HAPPY DAYS! I see no problem pointing out the FACT that not all will experience the happy days feeling.

I have two 12 guage 870 Express models.

One is the old style with the metal trigger guard, and one the new plastic one.

Both have had well into the tens of thousands of shells through them, used as canoe paddles, covered in mud inside and out and I credit every single waterfowl kill to the guns.

Never had either FTE of FTF. They each run flawlessly.

But yeah, what a terrible gun.

I have one 870 Express that was given to me. I had the gun refinished as a result of it constantly rusting, regardless of what I did. I had it parkerizes and then teflon coated. Over the last couple of years I have replaced most of the parts with higher quality Wingmaster parts. It's a great gun now. The refinishing was the key issue for me.

Must be batches or certain years. I took mine hunting a few weeks ago and never cleaned or oiled it until a week afterwards. Not a spot of rust on it and it was definitely in contact with a lot of moisture that day.

It has to be since I don't remember even rubbing mine down with a oily rag like I do with my other guns. Mine would be the older ones with no plastic trigger guard.
I also have a couple of the remington 1100 with that same rough matt finish and they have been no issue either.

Constantly rusting? I know you say you live in Fantinoville, and that can be many places (;)) but all that aside I have never had an issue with rust on mine as long as I cleaned and lubricated it good after use. I've been in the rain all day or driving snow and as long as I cleaned and stripped her I have never had an issue.

Nice. Basically you are calling the rest of us that have had zero issues with our Express 870s liars.

Good for you cbabes

I have an 870 that my 69yr old father bought when he was a youngan, and it has never ever had an issue.

On the other hand I have a Beretta Exteema, and Urika that are not at all reliable in rain. Why would I lie about spending over $1500 on a shotgun that does not cycle in the rain. That would make me a dummy:(.

I can't bash all Berettas, because I have a Pintail that has never skipped a beat in all weather conditions.

I had a Silver Pigeon I think it was that I got rid of pretty quick. I thought it was pretty unreliable. Not a top of the line Beretta but I thought it would have performed better.
