So, in before, no sh*ts like: ''870 is a piece crap''...

I fire a shell, pump back, shell extract, but it fails to bring the shell in, I've got to press on the bolt catch (?) for the shell to go in. I did take it apart BEFORE shooting to install a mag extension, maybe I somehow did something wrong while put it back together (which is doubtful).

Thanks!

Can't just pump back and forth to chamber, have to press on the catch.[/QUOTE]

Now , are you pulling the trigger and it goes bang then it wont feed a round? Because unless the previous round was fired you wont be able to rack the pump without pressing on the release.

did you install the extension on an express receiver that has a dimpled magazine tube? If yes, the dimples need to be removed. that will cause you grief. Also did you take the trigger mechanism out while you had the gun disassembled? Did anything like a long leaf spring fall out? (its called a shell latch and will be almost the length of the receiver) if yes, how you put it back in will seriously affect how the gun runs.

Boltgun

I think a better explanation is in order what I get is

Fire a round
Rack the action and eject the spent round
??? - from here I have no idea what the OP was getting at - I think that what he is saying a new shell will not leave the magazine ?

Is something jamming up the shell elevator?

It's pretty much that. So when the exit the mag, it start to go up, then I have to press on the catch for it to go in.

I'll have a lot more info this weekend, going to shoot, so hope I'll find the problem.

Thanks y'all, keep you posted.

Boltgun

I will look into that. I didn't however remove the trigger and the only spring that came out is the mag spring (I hope so...). As for the assembly, maybe my forend jams somehow in/with the latch.

Sounds like a possible shell retaining/ bolt retaining catch....probably bent when someone tried to put the bolt back in the gun and pulled back on the slide and it didn't go, so it got jammed into the receiver buy holding the slide and thumping the but on the floor a few times until it was forced past the catch(s), but in so doing bent the shell catch. (You have to reach your fingers up inside the action and depress both left and right catches to reassemble.)
I watched a friend (who insisted he knew what he was doing) do this to his 870.

well it actually is. For what I've seen, each time I rack, the follower's catch force the bolt catch over, so when the round exit, it jams on it. I guess I'll have to disassemble it, pry it a little bit or change it....

when you put the new exstention on your gun, did you make sure to cut the spring to the right length?. if the spring is too long it will put to much tention on the follower and will make it hard for the shell to pop out of the mag tube when loading.

It comes out, it get stuck on the the bolt catch....

3" shells? Older 870's like mine won't feed them properly. If it's an older reciever it's guarenteed. If it is the 3" shells then you simply have to load them one at a time. 2 3/4" feed just fine.

These things happen. Fortunately they make tools still to fix our little mishaps.

The bad experience I've had with 3" shells is only cheap high brass shells that don't have properly crimped bases getting caught on chambers in just about any mag fed shot gun. I've never personally had a problem but my hunting partners have, I tried a few of their suspect rounds and they did feed in my gun....all be it a bit sticky.
