Do i really need to buy a specific tool just to replace the forend of a Remington 870.. I know one exist but while it may be easier with it.. can you replace the forend without it (without hurting the shotgun)

?

If you are referring to the threaded piece you need to unscrew to get the forend off of the carrier you can use needle nose pliers. I did with mine, it was awkward but it worked fine for me. I did that when I put the Knoxx/Blackhawk kit on mine.

Agree. I get most of them with the plyers and vice grips clamped on the plyers to keep the spacing right and get some leverage.
And I don't damage the wood. The odd one is a bear which I have made a tool from plate for.

But Joe you have more experience on shotguns than most people would have if they lived to 200

I found recently the 870 bolt carrier doubles as the fore end removal tool.

Been around 870's a long time for sure and love them. When you get a chance can you send me a PM on the status of my new 7600 stock you are making for me. take care:)

PM works great guys.. specially when the subject has nothing to do with the OP's question

oh and while we are at it... it was freaking easy to remove the ring without tool on my 1974 wingmaster so I went with the "no tool" option

lets say i want to make that tool.. what are the exact dimension to craft it ? (millimeters maybe) Anyone uploaded a plan somewhere.. or i just cut it, try, cut it some more, etc.. until it fits ?

(and how tight that screw/ring is supposed to be.. i was thinking mine may had loosen with time since it was almost turnable by hand..)
