Ok need a little help . Its come to the point were I cant stand the safety on my Righthand 870 20 ga . Iam lefthanded and I need a left hand safety . Anyone know were to get one or point me in a positive direction .

Thanks for your help

Not sure what year this changed, but I've heard with the older models, it was possible to disassemble and reassemble, with the safety installed the opposite way, for lefty convenience.

Remington did make left hand trigger groups for right hand 870, 12g I know for sure. I believe I purchased mine through Remington factory parts and their warranty center in Quebec? They do or did make them

By biggest issue is when I get into a faster response cycling the action my finger sets the safety then I fumble to set the safety of after years of dealing with this I have to wait till Remington is out of business Go figure

I know I've changed safeties from right hand to left hand in 742 rifles, I imagine it's similar in the 870. I believe I had to drill for the spring and detent.

Checking into it right now but being a gun part coming out of the states isn't there tariffs at the Border. I was hoping I could deal on our side of the Border

The other option and what I’m using on all my 870’s and clones is a jumbo RH safety, it doesn’t reverse it to a true LH version but it makes the right side button a lot bigger and easier to find with your middle finger when you reach under the trigger guard. Is it perfect, no. It’s a helluv a lot better than a factory RH safety, with practice it’s pretty easy to use. I got mine from S&J Hardware.

I hear you but from my understanding the larger safety button would only make the actuation of the safety easier but for a left handed person it becomes a bigger issue at least for me I would rather have a smaller than bigger button

The safety, at least in older guns could be switched with little effort. Drop out the trigger group and there will be a transverse pin about 2 mm in diameter adjacent/parallel to the safety. It retains a spring that pushes against a small ball bearing that in turn causes the "Click" when you move the safety from ON to OFF and reverse. Carefully drift the transverse pin out (don't lose the spring or ball bearing then simply reverse the safety and the replace the ball bearing, spring and retaining cross pin. I have not done one in 20 years and maybe the new 870's are different but I did many, back when...

The left hand side of the button that engages the safety doesn’t change, the right side that disengages it is the side that’s significantly larger. It just makes it easier to find with your trigger or middle finger as you reach under the trigger guard, the one I linked from Midway reverses it from what I gather. Making it a true LH safety.

The one from Midway is going to be what will work cause it's a true left safety . Now I need to find one in Canada.
I never thought it might be reversable too going to pull the trigger group out and explore that idea too . Thanks guys

Newer 870 safeties aren’t reversible unfortunately, at least non of mine were. I looked into getting a LH trigger group from Gravel Agency but it wasn’t cost effective. I’m pretty sure the one from midway is only available by ordering it from the states, let us know if you find them in Canada as I’d be interested in a couple of them as well.
