I have a 870 with a 16" barrel and I have been looking at S&J's bayonet lug kit and I was wondering if the +2 mag extention would work with my shotguns barrel length or would it extend out to far past the front of the muzzle?

A 2 shot magazine extension will fit, pretty much, flush with an 18" barrel, so it will extend past your 16" barrel. Where did you get a 16" barrel by the way? Standard factory barrel lengths seem to be 12.5", 14", or 18" for shorter barreled 870s.

It was on the shotgun when I got it, it appears to be a Remington factory barrel with rifle sights. The gent I got it off said as far as he understood it the 870 was an ex Railway Police shotgun.

Lots of 16" barrles out there on factory remington 870 shotguns.
As posted allready yes Our +2 mag tube will be a little to long for your gun. so if you want to use a +2 mag tube thenyour will need an 18" barrle or longer.

Thanks for the information BBB, guess this means I have no choice but to go out and buy another shotgun (like I need an excuse for that 
) just so I can do this. I would get another barrel for it but this little shotgun looks to nice the way it is.

Another option is to add a 2" extended choke or just add +1 mag ext.

+1 wound fit , but not enought tube if he want to mount a bayonet.

It is not so much of a case of even wanting to add capacity to my mag (if 5 rounds are not enough then an extra ain't going to make much of a differnce) it is the case of wanting to mount S&J's bayonet lug on my shotgun. So I am going to have to keep my eye out for a good deal on a 870...
