Remington 870 or Reminton 887

I own neither but have fondled both. The foregrip on the 887 covers the loading port when pumped back, seems a little unnecessary. I'd say stick with the classic
i have had both.
Love my 887 tactical more than any other firearm ive owned.
-light weight
-softer recoiling ( suprisingly )
-chokes are interchangable
-raised rib and comb mean that it comes up very well
-personally i like the look
downsides:
-Yes the foreend covers the loading port when bolt is open .. dont know how often you need to load the tube while the action is open? but for me thats never.. in any shooting discipline.
-lack of accessories compared to the 870

If that's the only issue with I think I can live with it (not sure why you would load the tube with the action open any way). How's the mechanics of the gun... Smooth action or any jaming issues? dose the gun feel tight and solid. Good construction in comparison to the classic 870
Same here. I bought one to try which is what I do with most new shotguns out and lost my shirt on it when I sold it which was after a couple boxes of shells.

Get a Marine Magnum and an extra barrel or two. Best damn shotgun I ever owned. She ain't pretty, but she won't rust and won't break. Good enough for me !

The new dude has a lot to learn obviously and no respect. He will find out quickly respect goes a long way when asking for help here and you slap one member no one will assist you. By the way a 887 is an excellent gun buy two

I think Turkeyslayer1300 is just stating a fact. Remington`s quality control is not up to par. You can read alot of threads about Remington and make that decision for yourself. He is just stating some proven valid points but hey we are all consumers and can spend our money they way you want. I just think for alittle more money a browning bps or benelli nova or supernova would be alot better pump and you save yourself money in the long run. Picture above is funny.
Agree 100% unfortunately the OP did not see it that way. I have a lot of remingtons in my collection but nothing in probally the last 10 years did I keep.

The 887 doesnt feel the same as an 870 .. thats because its an 887, its a different gun..
887 is a lightweight hunting gun, but i dont have any issues with its reliability or longevity.
the 870 feels like im weilding a truck axel, but i dont have any issues with its reliability or longevity.
OP should handle both and decide for himself

It's very important to be able to keep the ejection port open to do a quick single round reload if needed. It allows you to fire all shells, but quickly put one in the chamber and close the action so you are ready to fire while you continue reloading.
So, at my local shop looking for a shotgun:
870 Express...stock felt small and fragile, like it would easily break. Not saying it would break, but to ME it felt like it would. And for the life of me, I could NOT shoulder the 870 with any degree of comfort. Reach was far to long, my left arm was straight to get the forestock. Racking a new 870 was not a pleasurable experience but I do understand that this would break in. Aftermarket up the ying yang which is good. A quick fit and finish review seemed fair.
887 Tactical...Picked it up, and it just felt 'right' Sighting was easy, shouldering was a breeze and felt good, action felt better (but it was new and like the 870 would change) Left arm reach was WAY more comfortable AND natural. Very limited (read...almost none) aftermarket, but what do you really need that this doesn't already have? Again, quick fit and finish seemed fair, although the coating seemed to be even without any problems.
Both were (are) comparable in price. But for me, I am going back tomorrow and taking another look at that 887, and more than likely, if I don't get the 887 tomorrow, it will be in the near future.

I think this is more for tactical employment of the shotgun. I think a lot of target shooters just load it up and shoot and don't worry about speed reloads, shell changeovers and such...
I find it funny that people say avoid anything Remington, but Wingmasters are okay.... Wingmasters ARE made by Remington. Remington does have different lines, for the 870... yea people have issues with the Express, but if you read their website, there's quite the difference between the Express, Wingmaster, and the Police model.
I think it really depends what you want to do with it, I found the 870s have a ton of accessories, versus the 887 there doesn't seem to be as many.
