Remington 870 Police Magnum

I will say my initial impressions are that the gun is no where near as sturdy and well built as the Mossberg 590A1. Its much lighter, has a plastic trigger guard instead of a metal one etc.. It does have a nice recoil pad. It hold 6 +1 instead of 8 + 1. You could get a 590A1 for a similar price thats a much better shotgun in my opinion. I like wood furniture which is why i bought this one, while its nice, if I had it back I would have gotten the 590A1.

Between the 870P and 590A1, if I had to do it over again I would have probably chosen the Mossberg as well, though I prefer the Ithaca 37 over both.

I respect the 870's carefree ruggedness {as endlessly proven in "fleet" service} but I find it somewhat clunky in operation and heavier than it needs to be. The sprung lifter gate {which is/was quite heavily sprung on police models} in particularily makes reloading the magazine quickly a bit of a chore vs the Mossberg, Ithaca and Benelli pumps.

I bought this one:

I have to say its much lighter then the 590A1 I had. Its certainly not as well built. Its still a good shotgun, and im sure ill have no problems with it. To be honest i have a 590 special purpose here that its about equal too.

My favorite shotgun right now though, is this one that I got off the EE. Cycles smooth as butter, and nice recoil pad. Ive shot 25 rounds of 00 buck and 20 slugs through it so far. Awesome gun.

what is it??? where did you get that stock leather holster? Man, that's beautiful! how much :D

Its a 870 wingmaster reciever ( older one), the shell holder is a Galco custom leather holster. Barrel is a Dlask. Has titanium follower. I take no credit, i bought it as is from a seller on the EE. For 700 bux.

#### i really want it now.

I love this thing, one of the guns im not gonna ever sell. I have friends that would laugh at that, as i usually end up selling everything at some point, but this thing was hard to find, been looking for one like it for a bit. Its a keeper, i cant believe how well built it is, and how smooth it cycles. Its just a great shotgun.

I found the 590A1 20" to be lighter, or at least be less muzzle heavy, than my 870P. Granted that could be because my 870 wears a lightweight Hogue stock which shifts the center of gravily forward quite a bit.

As far as actually build quality I think the 870P is better/sturdier than the Mossberg in most respects, they seem to hold up much better in organizational use from what I've heard.

I'm really confused now guys, someone please explain this to me.

I first purchased a Remington 870 Express Tactical from The Shooting Centre about $540 (ish). I found out after that the Police model was better built than the express model with aluminum internals as opposed to plastic of the express. A couple days ago I went back and bought the Police model, for only $40-$50 more. I was looking through Wolverines website at their Police tactical models and the prices are different, one was over $900, another $725, $500 ... what is the difference between the $580 police model and the $935 police model?

http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/2090/Remington-Model-870-Police-12-Gauge.aspx - $935
http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/de...18-Parkerized-Barrel-and-Speedfeed-Stock.aspx - $725
http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/2086/Remington-Model-870-Police-12-Gauge.aspx - $705

Can someone who knows about these shotguns let me know? All I really wanted to buy was 'the' best 870 that money can buy. And I really like the wooden stocks and forend on these 870s, looks amazing.

Well the 935 one has wilson combat ghost ring sights, two shot extension tube and a speedfeed stock. I also believe it comes with three chokes or is available in three not sure what they are saying on the website.

The 725 Has a speedfeed stock and two shot extension tube.

The last one doesnt have the extension tube. However, call wolverine and ask if you want to know for sure.

I have an 870 express with a speedfeed and a forward mount pic rail with light and ghost rings never had a problem with it.....love it would never trade it for anything is always in my camp site......

Find an older pre plastic 870 and go from there perhaps? That way you get exactly what you want and have fun building it in the process if you're into that kind of thing!

An excellent option. You can still pick up 2 3/4" Wingmasters for around $250-300. I've got an old Police trade in Wingmaster 18" Cyl bore that I paid $200 for a few years back.

So there is a Remington Police, and a Remington Police Magnum?

so many models lol I've suddenly fell in love with shotguns for some odd reason, ever since I got my 870. I'm now looking to buy the break action Norinco Coach gun (awesome), and the Stoeger Condor Outback 12g O/U shotgun (sweet). both at Wanstalls... as soon as I sell one of my pistols, going to buy both :)
