Remington 870 POLICE

oh droooool...... I gotta start saving up for one of these. Id love to find a blued version. When did they change it to parkerized?

:D

All earlier production Police Magnums (and other models) have 18" barrels. When REM started producing the economy Express models several years ago with the blued bead blasted finish and the painted Police models, they changed the barrel lengths to 18.5" for some reason. Probably to be flush with their 2 round extension.

Well, and here I thought I knew it all! Thanks for the info!!!

Besides the above-mentioned differences, the Police models have a much more durable and corrosion resistant Parkerized finish compared to the black oxide on the Express and are subjected to a somewhat more rigourous standard of quality control.

they stopped parkerizing the Police models a while ago.
its some sortof black oxide finish now, over bare metal underneath that looks bead-blasted.

I recognize those nicks on your tube Janesy. Very nice set. :D Some Walnut would be in order.

I like blued Candy best. :p

is it the original factory stock on this shotgun

no sir it is not.
thats a Hogue short LOP stock. paid ~$100 for it to my door, ordered it directly from Hogue by phone, theyre quite friendly.

Unless Remington hasn't updated their website recently, they still advertise the Police models as being Parkerized

would you believe me if i took photos of the gun, complete with flaking black oxide finish?

Does anyone know where to get a 3 shot (for a 20") blued mag extension? I am having a difficult time locating one. Thanks.

Let's see the pictures. I'm not saying you're full of sh*t or anything, but I am surprised if it is the case that Remington is using the same finish on the Police and Express models, given that Remington's own literature touts the Police Models as having a Parkerized finish (with the exception of the ones that have a polished blued finish). It could well be that their website and catalogue is out of date.

I just bought an older wingmaster with a 30 full choke for $200 and chopped it, added ghost ring sights ported the barrel and parkerised it in the garage. I am just about to pick up a litre of teflon to teflon coat it. Total cost about $350. I like it so much I built 2 more although since I had to buy the barrels as opposed to chopping them (12.5 and 14") they cost a little more but still less than $500. Parkerised them and they will be getting tefloned too. I don't hunt so I don't need 3" receivers and half the fun is adding the doo-dads. The pistol grip was just on for the picture, it looks good but useless otherwise.

Nice work. The price for what you did is even nicer. So between the Express and Wingmaster which would be considered stronger, or are they pretty much the same in terms of materials/construction? The thing that has always attracted me to the Police model is it's built like a tank, but they're not cheap.

the Wingmaster will have crisp and clean machining inside and out, and an aluminum triggergroup, chromed/polished bolt.
the Express will have machining far worse than Chinese 870 clones, a plastic triggergroup, and be vigorously bead-blasted to try and (unsuccessfully) hide the piss-poor finish.
otherwise, function/reliability is identical with the Wingmaster being smoother out of the box due to the better machining and polished internals.

Additionally, the Express models are built with certain MIM trigger group components and extractor as opposed to tool steel parts in Wingmasters. ... and Police Mags include stronger springs than both Express and Wings.

Excellent work with those bangsticks, dogzilla. :)
