recently purchased a new 870 from SIR and i want to get my 50 bucks back. on the rebate coupon though, it says the offer is only good in the U.S. i called SIR about it but they were no help. if the rebate is offered in canada, what do i do?

ggggggggg

call sir

they have been advertising it "netted" out of their sale prices, its false and very misleading, tell them you are going to the media unless you get a $50 refund

I also bought an 870 super magnum (non mag does not qualify) from SIR. I wouldn't worry too much about it, I contacted Remington Canada as per Harv3589's recomendation in this thread:

They said it is valid just be sure to get a coupon from the retail outlet (many didn't have the coupon). What i didn't ask was if I should send the coupon to Remington Canada or the US address listed on the coupon, let me know if you find out...

Do you like your 870? I took mine out yesterday and I love this thing!! broke it in with some 00 buck, magnum slugs and target loads, my shoulder is still sore!

i love it too. its definately not the nicest out there, but for what it costs, i think its a great deal. the rebate even makes it better. my local gun shop sells them for $499! i only have 1 problem and that is sometimes after the last round is fired, the action won't open. i have to hold the forend and hit the butt on the ground to eject the last fired shell. its still fairly new so it should go away, could maybe use some lube as well

does that happen when you are usning the heavier rounds? I noticed the same thing and i thought it might be the expanded casing "gripping" the bore wall on the heavier loads; it does not happen to me with the target loads. Also, mine does not seem to be quite as bad as yours as i only have to exert a little more force on the fore-end.

I'm not sure if i just unconsciously pulled back on the fore-end after pulling the triger but i swear the breech bolt was partially open once after firing, a little scary if the bolt open because of shot pressure!!

Anyway, i'll keep an eye on things, but like you I'm sure the gun will be fine once the moving parts become acquainted with each other.

is it a different coupon than the one that comes with the gun? thanks for the info too

P.S. If you ever do a Remington Rebate... remember to send one of the two barcode stickers that come with a new Remginton firearm.

Yes, I know they don't mention that anywhere in the application portion... and if you send in your rebate application minus the "sticker" you will simply be forgotten about/dismissed.

It basically took me 1 year to claim a rebate from them... lots of letters; but I finally got it :p

Rebates are evil - they are designed to be forgotten about or given up on.

Good luck!

I also had a BenQ computer monitor rebate hassle... I sent off two UPC barcodes for 2 seperate monitors in the same freakin envelope... I got a cheque/rebate for one. They said there was no "second" barcode ...GRRR~

you get the idea... all companies use Rebates as a bait to get you to buy their product at the "awesome price, if you include the rebate!" but then collecting the rebate is a whole other game.

The coupon is the same as the one on the Remington site, just the address where to send is changed on it. I would think if you printed the one off the site it would work. I didnt have one come with my gun.

NEVER, NEVER Put two rebates in one envelope, trying to save a stamp! It will burn your ass everytime. Also a lot of companies have "Limit one per address" in the fine print. Just to be sure I send one to the house, one to my office, one to the in-laws etc.... :p :p :p

Rebates ARE evil!   Why not just give it instantly at the retailer? Most people overlook a rebate, forget about it, never cash it in on time..... All it is for is public image.....

Just a quick note regarding the breach bolt / action opening after firing. I found this on the remington website:

Q "The action on my Model 870 opens when I fire it. Is this normal?"
A "It is the design of the Model 870 for the action bar lock to disengage once the shell has been fired. This enables you to load and fire the second shot with more speed."
