Gentlemen, I went to a favourite gun shop over the weekend and found a gem. 1959 production Remington 870 SA skeet. This little shotgun only needed some cleaning and the addition of a plug for grouse hunting. Best of all I bought it for 300.00. This little gun is about 90% and is a joy to shoulder and carry. I compared it to my express and the differences in carftsmanship was very obvious. (I am not slamming the express it works well and is the perfect rough counry duck gun) The old remmy's were works of art compared to todays middle of the road pumps. NOTE: this gun retailed at 135.00 in 1959. It took sometime to earn a gun in the old days. Miners at Steep rock iron Mine were working for 75.00 a week at that time. ( in Atikokan)but I doubt they bought Skeet grade 870's. Oh well I thought I would share the story.

Great find!!. I have my Dad's 20 ga 870 that I remember him buying in the mid 60's. I remember he paid $152 and that was big money back then. It has a 26" modified choke ribbed barrel. When you close the action the steel in the barrel rings. Sure don't make them like that anymore and I'll never part with it. Probably hand it down to my son or hopefully my grandson if I make it that long. Enjoy your new shotgun.

If it has been used at all it will be as smooth a butter. Yes I did the same thing and compared one next to an express. Quite a difference as you seen.
I am fortunate and still had three of the 4 gun set from shooting skeet with them in the early 70's.My wife bought me a vintage 69 410 skeet for xmas which I had been looking for 15 plus years to complete the set. I love the old wingmaster pumps. Take care
 
The 870 Skeet are among the nicest 870s ever made. I owned a 20 gauge bought through this site a few years ago. I'd still have it except that it was acquired because a good friend of mine wanted one in that gauge. It was beautiful and very smooth. It wasn't easy to give up but I made sure to acquire first right of refusal if he decides to part with it.

I went to many a gun show before I located a left hand 12 ga. 870 for my son. Since he is 7' tall he required the addition of an adjustable recoil plate/ pad to the stock. He shoots skeet with it very well, thank you (often better than his old man). Of course, he has an advantage in that when he is at station #1 the high house target almost skids off of the end of his 28" barrel....
