Remington 870 Tac-14s are back!

...

Mine has the polymer shockwave grip with no sling point. What’s been the standard way of attaching a sling point to it? Just drill a pilot hole and screw one in? Or is there a better way?

Yes, just drill and screw in one of those sling swivel studs for a wooden stock. This worked fine for me.

...

And finally, has anyone found a suitable bag/scabbard or anything else for carrying this guy? It doesn’t fit in my hiking bag :( and all the ones I’ve seen leave part of the firearm exposed, I’d prefer to have the entire thing concealed in a bag which I could attach to the exterior of my hiking backpack.

Fits perfectly ...

And I have another Tac-14 in a scabbard with a thick wool sock covering the end where the grip sticks out.

My 20 & 12ga Tac 14's have Nordic +1 mag tube extensions w/ 3/8" hole for a QD/push button swivels.

The birds head grip 1/4"-20tpi allen head cap screws were replaced w/ a 3/4" longer allen head cap screw w/ a QD Flush Cup TIG welded to the head.
A 5/8" long aluminum spacer was added under the head of the grip screw head to locate the Flush Cup flush w/ the end of the grip.
Synthetic Corn Cob fore ends replaced the MagPuls to eliminate finger pinching or glove hang ups.
The polymer trigger groups were replace for aluminum housing units.
Tool steel extractors replaced the MIM'd extractors.
Mesa Tactical side saddles & Picatinny rails were attached to the receivers.

Both 14' barrels have 700 rifle sights & I've reamed/threaded each for Rem Choke Tubes.

Both have SureFire X400 Green light/laser in offset Amer Defense Manuf throw lever mount.
Both have Leupold Delta Point Pro 2.5MOA dot mounted in ADM throw lever mounts mounted in aft end of pic rail.

The units get transported/packed in MidWay USA AR15 Carbine cordura scabbards.

Computer illiterate or I'd post pics.

Sorry DANS40X .... but we need/want pictures and to admire your work there!!

I’ve got some nice walnut furniture on the way courtesy of a CGNer. I’m looking forward to installing that on my tac 14. What’s everybody running for a sling?? I was playing around with a magpul ms1 in coyote tan but it’s kind of meh. Doesn’t work real well for a sbs and it will look weird with the wood furniture.

I got a Dlask receiver sling plate but I don’t think that’s going to work for me, I find that it catches my thumb a lot when I re engage the safety, and the sling interferes with my grip on the shotgun occasionally. The new walnut birdshead grip I have coming is a custom peice and I’m pretty hesitant to drill holes in it for a stud, but I’m thinking that might be the best option. (Sling is kind of a non negotiable, this is a hiking/backpacking gun).

What about sights/optics? Most of the ones I’ve seen are just running the bead sight but I’d like to upgrade to a nice set of tritium sights, any suggestions?? I also have a pic rail if I wanted to go the red dot route. Since it’s a bear gun, I’m not as concerned about throwing in the extra scratch if it could possibly save my life.

For tritium sights …

XS sells a glue on Tritium dot for Rem 870s ...

Personally I went the rifle sight route …. and I installed Meprolight Tritium sights. They were easy to install … and they work like a charm ….
