Does anyone have experience with remington 870 black tactical finish.

The gun has perfect handling and looks great, but the black finish is really porous. It feels like a perfect rust catcher IMHO.

The gunsmith told me i should coat several layers of gun oil to saturate the metal but I'm a bit nervous about it.

Should i put a little more money for a gun with a baked on finish or am i worrying for nothing.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

thanks.

no worries..all blueing will rust if it isn't properly cared for.

if the finish is bad you can always get it refinished

I did several nice coats of 3in1 when I first got mine. I keep an oiled rag in a ziplock bag everywhere the shotgun goes, just for a quick wipe down to get condensation and stuff off.

If you put a side saddle on it remember to take it off once in a while or it will rust behind it.

Other than that normal care and it will be fine

870 tactical

I was looking for a low budget bear gun,
I found a nice looking 870 tactical for a little more than 300$ at SAIL.

pics on the way .. ( I'm still searching for my digital cam :p)

I own the same gun. 870tactical. I love it and with my addition of a new stock it's just perfect for my needs. Save your self some money on the oil and buy a big bottle of baby oil (mineral oil) from any grocery store. It works wonders on the finish. I apply it after every cleaning and the gun looks better now then it did in the show room.

trouble wit pics upload

well ... i found my camera, but I'm having trouble uploading images ...

when i click the image icon, it asks for a web address,
implying the image is already uploaded somewhere ...

any suggestions on how to upload.

Thanks tomjones for the imgur.com link.

Lots of other interesting pictures ... :D

Happy to help. Take my advice on the mineral oil (baby oil) it works wonders for the finish of both wood and the blued whatever it is on the 870 express.

Wipe it down and let it set in for a day or two and wipe any residual off. Both my 870 and all my walnut stocked guns look brand new from this treatment. Cheap and very effective.
