Any good for "fun" trap shooting? Not looking to be an expert trap shooter or else i would get a trap specific shotgun, but I like the look of the tactical one with the ghost ring sights so if anyone can offer me advice on this particular model that would be great!

I was also looking at the Norinco HP9 in 18.5", is this a good choice for a fun gun? The price is half that of the tactical but it doesnt have ghost sights etc

ghost rings sights are overrated on a smoothbore, and a simple bead sight is actually more effective for wing shooting.

if you are bent on ghost ring sights, however, it is best to buy a shotgun equipped with them from the factory since adding them afterwards will run around $200 (although they will be higher quality).

I bought a 870 Tactical Magnum but just the standard bead sight. I have no problem hitting skeet but I am bored of the shotgun game and looking to sell soon. Nice 870 too. OD Green, 3 shot tube extention, 2 3/4 - 3 inch magnum, pistol/butt stock with R3 recoil pad and NOT an express to boot.

So ya, tacticals can hit moving targets just like anything else.

I had a similar question last year that I never received a straight answer on.
I finally had the opportunity to try some "fun trap" (ie:a few buddies chucking clays for each other) with an 18.5" Wingmaster last summer and it worked out fine.
I just purchased my first shotgun, and I decided to go with the 18.5" bbl again, so that I had one shotgun that best covered all of my wants. If I ever get into shooting trap more than a couple times per year, I can easily purchase a 28" bbl and bolt it on when I need it.
HTHs!

I bought the express tactical model today, I dig it

I just bought one today as well from Williams; loving it :) It is sooo much lighter than my ol' 590a1.

Question though, should I worry about blasting 00 buck through the choke, or slugs? I know, stupid question, but I've never owned a blaster with any chokes :D

I have only done trap loads and slugs, no problem there! the choke isn't actually a restricted choke, its wider than the barrel so it shouldn't affect anything!

I'm just giving you a heads up....give it some time. I hadn't looked at mine in about 3 weeks. When I did....wow...did it start to rust on the receiver and on the exterior of the barrel. Since it's not a shotgun I'd consider a "show piece" I took some fine steel wool and it came right off. Then I made sure I wiped it down with oil.....lot's of oil.

What kind of crappy steel is Remington using on these things anyways? It's not like I live along the ocean with high humidity or I dipped the darn thing in a lake or something. It just started to rust all of a sudden. Other than that....I love it.

Having experienced the rusting issue on a remington sps varmint, I suspected it would be a possibility with this shotgun as well. I oiled mine down good when I got it and haven't had a problem yet.

A friend has the 870 Express, he said he has problems with it and its poorly made. he ended up selling it and getting the wingmaster except its kind of pricy. I have heard a lot of good about the Mossberg 535 Shotgun. You can get in in a combo with 3 barrels for relatively cheap ($600 max). I will be picking one up this week!
