Remington 870 vs Mossberg 535

It's crazy the opinions I am getting from all kinds of people! My friends have told me that they kill hundreds of geese with 3", while others tell me I wouldn't bother goose hunting with anything other than a 3.5"

For what it is worth I have killed thousands of geese with Federal 2 3/4", 1 1/4oz #1 steel shot loads @ 1275fps. The first year the spring Snow goose season opened in Quebec I shot 103 of them in 19 days with that load! I still use that same load today despite having owned my Browning Gold Stalker 3.5" since the fall of 2000! Throwing more pellets into the sky does nothing if you can't center the pattern around the goose to begin with. Practice and lots of it will make you deadly at wingshooting...not a bigger gun! Just my 2 cents!

Edit: BTW...despite owning 11 shotguns, my go to gun is still an old 1960's Remington 870 Wingmaster with a 2 3/4" chamber!!

What I've garnered over tons of reading and head scratching is that you can use any size chamber 12 gauge to hunt turkey, geese, etc, but if you're going to buy new, you might as well spring a little extra for the 3.5". It'll eat any shells your buddy has if you forget your's and will be easier to sell down the road if you ever need to.

From what I've seen the Mossberg combo will usually be a little cheaper than a Remington.
