Remington 870 vs Winchester 1300

I think looks, in most cases, may be a big part in which shotgun a person is attracted to. What i mean is some people may like the look of rounded details(the 870) and some may like the look of squared details ( the 1300)

a little off topic does anyone know the difference between a Winchester 1300 defender and just a defender, no number designation, wood stock, beed sight, 18"barrell, 2 3/4-3" chamber

Own both find the 870 feels sloppy compared to the 1300.The 1300 is a smoother feel to me and i like the safety a lot more .The 870 could be used longer with out a cleaning.
the 870 had a firing pin problem i had to get repaired.both have been used and even abused.thousands of mag.reloads shot by both .
Cost wise i think i paid less for the 870 than the 1300,both purchaced new .
The cost of the extras was less for the 870.
I'd go shootin with win 1300 first and use the 870 as my truck gun.

absolutely love my 1300, best slug gun ever purchased, A couple of buddies and myself tried to see if the Winchester would break one long weekend and pumped through 12 thousand slugs through it. Not even a hiccup and we didn't even clean it. Strength, I'd say it's strong enough for any job it's asked.

There are three main actions for the 870, Express, Wingmaster, Police. I've had three 870 express break, two wingmasters, and have yet to try the Military/Police variant. I will buy a Military/Police variant as I suspect it is equal to the 1300.

Like many 1300 owners I have to agree with the slick action. I have never had a jam with my 1300 in the 12 years I have had it. I use it as my primary bear gun so the slick action and jam free history are a great comfort, as you might imagine. I made a few adjustments as the pic shows. I think a bear would feel honoured to be zapped by such a fine firearm!!!

I've had my 1300 for about 14 years and have no complaints. The action is very smooth, very fast and has never jammed on me. What I really like about the 1300 though is the balance - for me - it's like pointing your finger.

A good friend of mine has an 870, it's fine, nothing really wrong with it, just doesn't feel as natural for me.

Two good firearms, probably less Winnies around nowadays.

I have had both over the years and they are both good for what they are,But I think the 870 is built a little stronger.I have been using 870s for over 25 years with no issues.

To all who say "870 hands down" have you even ever held a Winchester 1300? Simply owning a shotgun does not make it the best. When I bought my 1300 I was temped to go for the cheaper priced 870, but it did'nt have as nice of a finnish (wood and checkering) as the Winchester. Plus it came with 3 win. chokes. I have had some buyers remorse with some of the guns I bought, but never with this one, I've owned it for 10 years and I have never experianced a jam or malfunction to date. As others have pointed out, it cycles so smoothly that you'd think I was using astroglide instead of gun oil...;)

I inherited a 2200, basically same action from my grandfather 20 years ago. He used it hard and neglected, I have done the same. Ihave removed the action and found teaspoons full of crud and spruce/fir needles, never had a ftf or jam. Pop used alot on sal####er (ducks/turs the odd seal) and I have shot hundreds of rabbits, ducks, grouse, partridge and tree rats,2 moose and 1 caribou with it. It has a 2 3/4 cham, no vent rib, no blue left on it,the aluminum action is shiny and the wood beaten and battered. I still use it and have no interest in stashing away or replacing her, shes a doll and still goes boom when the trigger is pulled.

I own 2 870's and love em except for the finish on the express.

My friends all own 1300 defenders. I felt they looked ugly, they felt cheap, one of the was a jam-omatic and the other had to be sent to a smith for a broken extractor.

I've seen 870s go squirly too, but the 1300s never impressed me.

Quite frankly, there is only one pump for me. The 870 Marine Magnum. It is the very essence of the perfect pump. If one winter, the god Zeus jerked off and spewed in his hand, then punched a hole in the frozen ground with said spermy hand, in the spring an 870 Marine Magnum tree would sprout. By the fall, the nearby villagers would harvest the nickel plated goodness and the tree would bring entertainment, defense food, sport and joy to all the nearby villagers.
