Remington 870 wingmaster 28 ga

I grew up hunting in a time when the express did not exist nor that hastan or the Canuck the 1200 win was the first cost saving shotgun on the market . It was a step above the Canadian sportsman Stevens 67-607 and a few others . For me it was model12.s , wingmasters , Ithaca 37's and win 97's ocationally U would see a rem 31 . No it is not a better / smoother gun than a model 12 . I' m showing my age but in 1971 you could by a used field model 12 for $65-$125 depending on condition or maybe it has a rib . As I may have mentioned before I was a warranty gunsmith for winchestr and Remington also fabarm for awhile thee was a piece of junk . Things have changed and it's all about corporations bottom $ . I still hunt with for mentioned and will till I die . No off shore guns for me

Agree other than the model 31 is better and wayyyyyyyyyy smoother than a model 12 :)
I have to say it has been a long time since I bought NEW what I call an average blue collar shotgun and was impressed
The last one would have been a browning gold 10ga in around 92
I remember taking that thing apart and saying holy crap this is a superx1 or at least based on that design and I found out later it was indeed just that
They just don't make them like that any more
Cheers

Picked this up on the weekend basicLy nib 25" rem choke . Being a model 12 shooter I hope I don't have some weird reaction to this shotgun .seems to feel and swing effortlessly I will have to give it a try on barn yard piegeons and some Huns.

So how did the new gun work out for you. Are you ready to toss those old model 12's and put on a new hat :)

Must be why they are worth the same as originals :)
There is only one model 12 and it is not one of the remakes in any grade
In 28ga I have one original my grandfathers skeet gun and two of the browning remakes in grade 1. One in a box new and the other which gave me issues feeding that I had a nightmare to fix and it has briley choke tubes since new which they say never came with them but this one has them not the fixed mod like the NIB
Both will never be what the original is nor will they ever be as collectable or worth as much

Cheers

My problem is a known issue with these 28ga repos. As another owner posted

Browning Mod 12, 20 and 28 gauge guns are known to have this problem. I wouldn't send it to Browning. I had one, and after 3 trips to Browning, I gave up and traded it. Does it kick the second round on the ground? That's typically what they do.

I’ve never had issues with 3 of the 6 I’ve owned to date but that being said I have yet to fire this Grade 5 28 though the previous owner shot skeet with it for a few seasons and had the choke opened to light mod. One of the DU 20’s I had saw lots of use for waterfowl and grouse and never an issue. The grade 1 20 & 28’s I had were NIB and the Grade 5 20 I had saw 3 boxes of target loads through it and no issues. I’m anxious to get this 28 out for huns and grouse once I have my new knee.

If you’re saying that you bought one of these that came new from the factory with Briley chokes i find that puzzling, as Browning never made any repro M12’s with choke tubes. And even if they had, they wouldve used their own Invector choke system in the guns. My guess is someone had it done but never used it, then it made its way into your hands. Lot of guys have had those guns tubed.

Agreed. The Brownings came with 26” fixed mod choked barrels and the Winchester DU’s came with 26” IC’s.

Shell type makes a difference here . STS or federal never an issue with the same unmodified gun. AA terrible and still not sure why but did some bending and grinding and AA is fine also now
Cheers

I agree with you 100%
That is why I used the one with the tubes ( which they all should have been IMO ) and for what ever stupid reason at the time save the other as part of a set
What tossed a loop into it for me was they were just out and I bought both within approx a month of each other and it was 100% new so someone didnot have a lot of time to send it to briley have the tubes fitted, get it back and then trade the gun in
It was sold to me as new with no previous owner but that was not worth much other than words IMO
take care
