I'll give you a somewhat "technical" answer based on the position of someone who would try and sell your gun as a consignment dealer or buy it outright from you for resale. (assuming we are talking about a fairly current, 3", RemChoke model, with a 28" barrel)
I am privy to the wholesale price of a brand new 870 Wingmaster which may even be less than you paid (or expect someone else to pay for a used one) - so my numbers will show no "emotional" value - If someone wants one and can't find it anywhere else, you get a premium (maybe) - you sell it to a "cold dealer" and I would offer as follows:
Consignment - if it's truly 95% I would probably initially tag it at maybe 700 bucks (expecting to get maybe $550 at the low end) since a brand new one, with warranty is currently listed @ LeBaron's for $822 - if it sold and I took my cut you might see 600'ish if it sold "no haggle", a little less than 500 if it went "bargain basement".
Buy it outright - I would offer you no more than $550 - I might get stuck with it for a while.
Now, if I wanted one personally, what would I expect to pay??
Best retail ($822) less 20% (used factor even if it's fine which takes the price down close to the wholesale price) = $657 and then drop it another 100 bucks since the warranty only applies to the "original owner" and if I have anything to replace Rem will be no help even if was their fault.
Hmmm, I guess I can't separate my "commercial value" from "personal value" - so to me, your gun is worth ultimately no more than $550.
I am sure others will disagree, but I'm basing my numbers purely on a percentage of the cost of a new one with a bit of insurance due to lack of warranty.
If someone will give you 7 bills to save themselves the $120 (plus tax on the whole thing), then "that's what it's worth to them" - just not to me..
