Remington 870 Wingmaster

I have no experience with the new production models, however I am a disciple of the Church of 870 Wingmasters from the good ole days (pre 2000ish). Fantastic firearms that will last a lifetime and are rock solid reliable. Mine is my "never sell"/from my cold dead hands gun.

Good? Everything

Bad? They make other shotguns look bad
 
I too am a disciple of this church lol (well put). My 1972 Wingmaster goes bang every time smooth as glass I would not pick any other gun over it. The new ones I heard are still hand assembled and checked hence there hefty price tag.

If I could choose any shotgun and only one it would be a Wingmaster. buy once cry once. Spend the money you will not regret it.

A co worker is selling his wingmaster that im interested in. He is asking $350 is that too much? Also how do i find out the date of it?

I may be calling from a duck blind with his gun though.
I have a good friend who bought one in the late 80's, was envious of it ever since - till I got my own magnum edition wingmaster with the fancy scroll work(Fleurs de lis?***SP) and the AWEsome high gloss coating on the stock.

Old style Remington Wingmaster is the finest shotgun ever made.

Until which year did they make good ones?

I can't tell you exact year, but can recognize one, as soon as I see it.


Can anyone tell us year/ years when Wingmaster production deteriorated?
 
I cut my teeth on a 870 wingmaster. Back in the day, they were a gun you could pass on to several generations. Finding a older one in 3" is getting harder. Wingmasters were the best of the bunch. Now everyone wants cheap ,and in five years throw it away
 
I just looked at it, its a genuine wingmaster. has the wingmaster logo and it says 870 underneath the logo. 2-3/4 shells full choke. looks in great shape too
 
Wingmasters are just 870's dressed up. Mine is from the early 80's when Wingmasters were not Remington's higher end model. Paid $300 BNIB, so $350 isn't a bad price.
Lots of after market stuff for 'em, if you're inclined that way. So that full choke barrel can be changed to whatever you want with no fuss.

????? when was the wingmaster not remington's higher end model pump what is the 80's did they make any better Are you talking express?????
 
Can not attest to the greatness (or failure) of the wingmaster....but I do have an 870 express from 2009. First thing I did when I got home was clean it and deburr the internals then sprayed everything with: Rem dry Lube (teflon film) The gun is great and can only say that the plastic triger group is the only thing I dislike.

I cut my teeth on a Rem Model 10....currantly redoing the stock on that one..BIG difference between them...wouldn't own a Remington rifle if you gave it to me though.

One thing I don't like about the wingmasters is the detent on the barrels that engages with the mag cap.
I prefer the express style of mag cap retention.

350$ for a 2 3/4 Wingmaster with non-vent-rib and fixed choke is too high IMO. If it was 3 inch that'd be a good price.
