Three years ago I would have agreed with you but not any more. They are getting almost that in parts now especially if it has nice usable original (unrefinished ) wood set
I was shocked to see how fast trigger assemblies sold for 100 a pop. Also the 3" is an easy fix and even though it is a factory 2 3/4 I bet is maybe 3" ready. I know with mine about 65% or better percentage were . Just had to change the barrel and we were good to go Cheers

Fair enough on the pricing, I haven't been looking for one lately, so they could have gone up.

Not positive on this one, but I think the ejection port on a 2 3/4 receiver is too short to properly eject a 3 inch shell, assuming you've done the barrel swap to a 3 inch chamber. Correct me if I'm mistaken.
I bought a 3 inch vent-rib Rem-choke barrel for my older Wingmaster, but it's the "magnum" (3 inch) receiver, so it wasn't an issue.
 
I love the way Deerdr links me these threads in emails in an attempt to lure me into giving my opinion because he knows my views from our countless discussions on these guns. Not this time Doc! Oh wait! WTH? It isn't my $$ being wasted! ;)
However I will say this, there has never been an 870 made, Wingmaster or otherwise that could ever compare to one of these..........



or even a "Y" gun!!

Port is exactly the same on a factory 2 3/4" and 3"
Some say there was a smaller port in the 50's but I have never nor have I ever seen anyone prove it
Two of my batch or three in 12ga are 50's vintage and they don't have it and one was a factory skeet so one would think if any would have it the skeet would
Prices went way up once all of the home defense guys got into building them I find
10 years ago 150 bucks would get you a mint one not today

I guess I touched a nerve with THE SPANK....When he was a kid, somebody told him the Win 12 was the perfect repeater, and he believed them. LOL

Actually they talked me into trading my Belgian A-5 for an 870. Yes exactly, ??????

The Deerdr was a much more likeable fellow when his gun rack was full of vintage Parkers, A.H Fox's, model 88's and BelgianA-5's, he was also much more believable in those days too. Now he is like a Remington lawyer fighting ANOTHER class action lawsuit!!! Make sure the i's are dotted and t's are crossed before items hit the shelf for sale!! Look closely at the paperwork in the remington gun box Doc, I am sure there is a liability waiver in it!!! :p

Lots of after market stuff for 'em, if you're inclined that way. So that full choke barrel can be changed to whatever you want with no fuss.

Not a clue, as per usual...

Wingmasters are awesome. Those fixed choke barrels are also awesome. They typically have a very nice forcing cone. I say grab it for that price.
 
I just picked up a well used 1979 Wingmaster Skeet edition with factory 26" barrel. Bluing is well worn, but is beautiful to me at least, a great patina. Seems super smooth and for $250 I couldn't go wrong.

A factory 870 skeet will be the smoothest 870 you will ever own. Mine will almost pump with a mean look at them :)

No kidding eh! The fact that the express is a single action bar and the wingmaster is a dual bar, which is where the BPS got its design from.... Thats a huge difference. The fit, finish and smooth action on the wingmaster is so make ch better then the express. Pure ignorance to say what he said

?? the express has dual bars the same as the Wingmaster.
Are yopu maybe thinking of the model 10, which is a single bar and bottom loading / ejection, the same as the BPS and the M37 Ithaca?
This does not negate the fact that the express and the Wingmaster have several very different parts differences.

I bought a 1957 Wingmaster for $150 and hunted with it and sold it six years later for about that and got an Express. Wanted the shorter barrel, rib and interchangeable chokes. I don't regret the decision though the old Wingmaster's pump was slick as snot on a doorknob.

Turns out my Express is a 1984 and was virtually new and unused when I got it and that it is better made than the newer ones. It fits me best out of three guns and is my go-to shotgun.

Express barrels fit fine on Wingmasters.
