Remington 870 Wingmaster

aftermarket 3'' barrels should allow any wingmaster to shoot 3'' shells.

No they won't.Early 870's yes but most 2 3/4" need their ejector re-located back 1/4" to cycle out fired rounds. I had one modified as such then added a 3 " barrel.

Incorrect, the chamber isn't designed for the pressure of the 3" shells.

If you were meaning the action can’t handle the pressure, the difference between 2 3/4” and 3” guns is the ejector, and many later 2 3/4” guns had 3” ejectors. The actions are the same strength wise as they are identical beyond the potential ejector differences and the pressures are the same between both shell lengths.

This is correct.

Same design, yes. Same quality, no. The Express is cheaper for a good reason. Fit and finish are not close to the same and there are occasionally extraction problems. I know there are mods to fix the problems of the express which I have run into personally. While its a cheap fix I prefer the Wingmaster because it has NO problems at all. Damn near bulletproof. I am happy though that the express barrels will fit. Over the years I have had a couple of Wingmasters and one Express shortly after they came out. I did not keep it long.
