I have a gun that belongs to a friend and he has been having problems with it.When he shoots the gun the bolt will not release,it stays locked until you tap the top of the receiver then it will release.Anybody out there every had this problem??Thanks

It sounds like something wrong within the trigger group. When the hammer drops, a plunger activates the bolt release... at least it is supposed to...

Is you friend shooting the cheap 20 dollar 100 round box federal or winchester ammo from Walmart/Canadian Tire?
The Express 870's have the odd feeding jam problem with that ammo due to the thing metal casing.
Wont harm your friends 870 if that is the case. Just don't use it to hunt with, stick to shooting clay's with that stuff

My Mossberg 500A does the same thing except I never tried tapping the top of the receiver.

I don't use my 500A anymore.
