Remington 870s are starting to show up on the shelves again ....

I had some time with a Tac-14 and an anniversary Wingmaster and the fit, finish and function on them was superb. That said I have seen a lot of posts with horrendous examples of modern 870s so I think you need to handle one in person before buying. Really there is no excuse for a modern production anything to be a crapshoot but some manufacturers still manage it somehow...

If you want a new wingmaster with old school quality and superb fit and finish, the Anniversary limited from 2016 is hands down the best 870 ever made. Remington went all-in for that Anniversary line in efforts to show why they were the best, and save their reputation from their earlier express mistakes.
I wouldn't touch the Express....or the 2021"Rem-Arms" Remingtons...yet

The old Wingmasters were GREAT guns. I have 2 here. A 1952 with an early ringed barrel , and wears a model 31 corncob forend. The second one is an early 60's model .
Neither , has ever had a part replaced , or a single malfunction . Both pump smoother than whale poop on an ice flow.
I also have a second year of production Browning BPS (1978) I bought new , and although I do like it, it is not even close to the smoothness of the Wingmasters.
They just made them right back then.
