Well, I bought this shotgun last year and it sat in the safe for months and months. I went out to skeet shoot with a friend in April this year, and to my horror, found it to be just FULL of problems. As soon as I went to shoot it, it wouldn't fire. A friend of mine knows a gunsmith, and he put a new firing pin in it and said it would work. So I went out for round two of attempted skeet shooting...
When chambering a round, the fore-end becomes jammed in the forward position. Depending on how fast the pump was pushed forward, it can become very difficult to get free.
Sometimes the firearm fails to fire, instead leaving a small dent on the back of a live round. This can become very frustrating when combined with the above problem, as now there is a round in the chamber and the user is left unable to remove it.
The barrel appears to be "twisted" where it meets the chamber. The four grooves on top of the barrel do not line up with the middle of the stock/chamber/rest of the gun. The barrel feels very loose wobbles around a lot.
There is play in the fore-end forward and back when it's locked in the back position, causing a small gap to appear behind the shell in the chamber.
Also, while not a defect, the pump release button is located in a very poor position on the gun. You have to put your finger on the front of the trigger guard and push the button to release the fore-end, but the fore-end strikes the area that the button is located in when you pump it. It's very easy for one to have a finger pinched, and because of the force with which one can pump it, this could cause a bad injury. This issue is compounded by the others above, because you have to have the button depressed to release the fore-end, and when it's jammed in the forward position, you have to put a great deal of force on the fore-end to unjam it.
So anyways, I contacted the dealer I bought it from and they won't take it back. They recommended I send it to Gravel Agency in Quebec, Remington's warranty place in Canada. I figured it was worth asking if anyone has had any experience with either getting warranty fixes on an 887, or Gravel Agency in general. Does anyone think they would fix all of the above problems?
I've read reports of people online who had to send their 887 back multiple times, and I'm certainly not in the mood to do that.
If anyone has any insight here, I'd appreciate it. I'm pretty disappointed.
