Well, I bought this shotgun last year and it sat in the safe for months and months. I went out to skeet shoot with a friend in April this year, and to my horror, found it to be just FULL of problems. As soon as I went to shoot it, it wouldn't fire. A friend of mine knows a gunsmith, and he put a new firing pin in it and said it would work. So I went out for round two of attempted skeet shooting...

When chambering a round, the fore-end becomes jammed in the forward position. Depending on how fast the pump was pushed forward, it can become very difficult to get free.
Sometimes the firearm fails to fire, instead leaving a small dent on the back of a live round. This can become very frustrating when combined with the above problem, as now there is a round in the chamber and the user is left unable to remove it.
The barrel appears to be "twisted" where it meets the chamber. The four grooves on top of the barrel do not line up with the middle of the stock/chamber/rest of the gun. The barrel feels very loose wobbles around a lot.
There is play in the fore-end forward and back when it's locked in the back position, causing a small gap to appear behind the shell in the chamber.

Also, while not a defect, the pump release button is located in a very poor position on the gun. You have to put your finger on the front of the trigger guard and push the button to release the fore-end, but the fore-end strikes the area that the button is located in when you pump it. It's very easy for one to have a finger pinched, and because of the force with which one can pump it, this could cause a bad injury. This issue is compounded by the others above, because you have to have the button depressed to release the fore-end, and when it's jammed in the forward position, you have to put a great deal of force on the fore-end to unjam it.

So anyways, I contacted the dealer I bought it from and they won't take it back. They recommended I send it to Gravel Agency in Quebec, Remington's warranty place in Canada. I figured it was worth asking if anyone has had any experience with either getting warranty fixes on an 887, or Gravel Agency in general. Does anyone think they would fix all of the above problems?

I've read reports of people online who had to send their 887 back multiple times, and I'm certainly not in the mood to do that.

If anyone has any insight here, I'd appreciate it. I'm pretty disappointed.

Really? I have the tactical and around 10k rounds with maybe 5 failures mostly double feeds with the low brass target loads.

When was the last time it was cleaned/oiled?? Sounds like you might have a bit of corrosion on/in your bolt/chamber...as for the barrel, I'd have to see some pics.

I dealt with the Gravel Agency for parts and advice for a N.E.F. Handi-Rifle (N.E.F. was taken over by H&R, and Marlin, H&R, and Remington are all owned by the same parent corporation so Gravel is the customer service agency for all of them in Canada.) I got what I wanted and they were nice to deal with. Never asked them for help with a Remington, and don't have any experience with the 887.

Well I bought the gun in July of last year, cleaned it/oiled it when I bought it, and it sat in the safe all winter. I didn't try to use it once until this spring... And I bought it brand new, so I would hope that there was no corrosion.

Great, thanks. I was worried that Gravel would have a "go-to" fix for the 887 (for example, fix the jamming fore-end but nothing else) and then send it back. I guess I'll have to see what I get, but I'm hoping they address all those problems.

I have some experience with them, and all I can say is they helped me, and made things right.

This is after North Sylva screwed me around for months, and didn't end up doing a damn thing to help me in the end!

So yeah, I would go for it. What do you have to lose?

Yeah, I guess I'll go for it. I'll likely try to sell it once it comes back, though. :( It's not a firearm that I'm proud to own, by any means. I was a bit ticked that the dealer didn't even try to make things right, only told me to get the warranty and pay the shipping to Gravel.... Oh well

I bought mine last year, have about 1k rounds threw it, exactly 1 FTF (on the first 20 of winchester walmart special) 3 or 4 double feeds(all due to short racking) last monday i out shot my buddy with his supernova(his jammed twice, mine none), sounds like you got one of the "remingtons" i hear so much about, i hope you get it resolved as mine has been 99.99%

I had broken ejector with my 870. I send it to Gravel for warranty and it they called me to say that it was not under warranty..... It Cost me 60$ plus 50$ shipping together this ejector repaired under warranty :(

Just wanted to bump this thread to let everyone know that I send the shotgun to Gravel Agency, and they replace it with a new one that I have had zero problems with. I hated the shotgun initially, but after using it a bit, it's kind of nice having a shotgun that you don't really worry about marking up or anything.
