Remington 887 Nitromag

I have handled a couple of them and a couple of friends of mine were all 'horned' up for one; until they actually handled one.... they feel cheap and they are fugly....way too much plastic for me.

They probably work but what pump gun doesn't...really...

I wouldn't trade my old 870 for one... but thats just me:rolleyes:.

Someone said they were the shotgun equivalent of a Remington 710/770 !

I particularly like the plastic trigger ! ( Not )

trigger or triggerguard?

the Benelli Novas/Supernovas also have a plastic triggerguard (and these look like Remington Nova wannabes).

whats the purpose of the rings going right around the barrel? besides holding dirt/moisture? :p

Im curious to see how the plastic coating holds up in extreme conditions.. When you put a material like that in -20'C temperatures and then bang it againts something, it would be interesting to see if any cracking occured. My other concern was cracking and warping of the platic over time. Hows it going to be holding up 5-15 years down the road? And what if moisture gets between the outer coating and the actual gun? In my opintion, if you want a remington pump that can handle some damage, just get an express.

i think this is a non-issue with most modern plastics used in guns, and the plastic is a far more stable and durable material than wood. on my Benelli anyways the entire action is encased in plastic so the only way youre really going to rust it is if you leave mud or snow inside the action and dont clean it/oil it - which would damage any gun.

my only worry would be that Remingtons have already shown a horrific decline in quality and materials in the last couple decades from the Wingmasters of old to the modern Express and guns like the 710/770.... so id have to wonder whether or not this gun represents an even further decline in manufacturing costs and quality.

These are JUNK, buy a Benelli Supernova if this is the style of gun you are after. Supernova is 10X the gun!!!

yeah, seeing as how a Benelli Nova is only $70 more than one of these i am having trouble understanding the appeal.

what sold me on the Benellis is watching a gun show on TV where they were trying to show viewers the catastrophic results of a 12/20 burst in a shotgun. IIRC they did something like three 12/20 bursts in a Benelli with no damage to the gun - it just blew the 20ga round downrange.

but no in answer to the OP i have not purchased or handled one of these, and am looking forward to a CGN review :)

in your shoes i would wait for just such a review and compare it to such similarly priced guns as the Benelli Nova, Remington SPR 453, etc before spending your money on one. if it ends up being the 770 of the shotgun world you could do a lot better for the money.
