So I recently purchased the 12g 887 with the 26" barrel. Looks like a nice gun shoulders nice and the action cyles smooth and no need to worry about rust.

Now that I have the gun where is the best and cheapest place to buy buckhot 2 3/4", 3" +3.5" so I can test this baby out.

Any particular reason for wanting buckshot? Just curious. Usually sold in 5 round boxes and isn't reliable past 30 yards or so.
There is no best place to buy anything. Like Winchested says, the shop where you bought the gun would be one place. LeBaron's is another. As is Crappy Tire, etc.
Remington 3.5" buckshot ammo runs about twice the price of 3" or 2.75" ammo.

no real reason...just a newbie, what should I be using to hunt bird and for the range for target practice

Not to mention it'll probably knock you on your ass.

Hello hybridg,

Welcome! For shooting clay targets (at a Gun Club) you would be required to use nothing bigger than 1oz to 1 1/8oz of No. 7.5, 8 etc of target loads.

As far as bird hunting is concerned, there will be a few variables to consider in terms of ammo selection depending on the type of game (Waterfowl or Upland birds) that you may seek to hunt.

Waterfowl - Depending on the species, use the proper size of steel and/or other forms of non-tox loads + the appropriate choke combo.

Upland/Small Game - Depending on the species, use Lead shells (would be the least expensive option) + the appropriate choke combo.
