there isnt much detailed info regarding the 887, besides the standard specs so heres my in depth take on it.

Chokes.
threaded and removable. any remington choke will work.

Barrel Clamp.
consists of a 20mm rail (can be switched sides) and a swivel lug.
remington swivels work.

Foregrip.
not interchangable with anything.
also double the length as a standard grip. covers the feeding port when the action is open.

Buttstock and Pad.
Not interchangable.
it is holo inside so it is possible to mount a shell holder

Sights and Mounts.
with the 20mm rails you can mount basically anything. although there can be some limitations with sights, such as eotechs with a higher sight picture.

It covers the feeding port or the ejection port when the action is opened? I dont see the problem with it covering the feeding port while the action is opened. Select slug drills are done with the round fed into the mag first then work the action to bring the slug into the chamber.

If your gun goes empty, you'll be loading through the ejection port, not the feeding port.
 
Ive got an 887 Tac and quite like it.

as a standard ( bare bones/no features ) tac shotgun it does the job and looks pretty sweet ( imho )
shoots softer than the comparable 870
i would like a reciever mounting side saddle though - but you cant win them all..

I've also done away with the tactical ported standoff choke, and replaced it with a standard remington Mod choke. i like the bulldog look of having the barrell shorter than the mag ext

this is really a non issue as the 887 tac comes with a +2 ext ..
 
FYI I have one as well. (887 Nitromag Tac) and I've fired about 400 through with no issues. Just some cheapo federal target load failure to feed issues (it's happened maybe5 times out of 200 rounds and its def the cheap ammo not the gun).

All the issues on the net that you'll see are the 2009 model, I'm pretty sure. Mine hasn't given me any issues at all..
 
My 887 purchase was an impulse buy. at $540+tax, I over payed. I did some research and they can be had for $100 less at various outlets (Frontier). 870 express tactical is on Frontier for $499, so, you're saving $50. Not a big difference.

Weight:
6 7/8 lbs i think? So you're saving like half a pound. Again, not a big difference.


I guess it just comes down to preference. I liked the 870, but when I saw the 887 I had to have it. It's beefy and looks mean as hell. Some old guard fellas don't like it, but I dig it. I like the coating, but I'm going to pay attention to any rust issues carefully...
 
I bought mine at a gunshow for 500 no tax after my uncle was done with the dealer. :yingyang: (It would have been around 600 without some bargaining)

I'm happy with mine, never jammed and actually has less jamming problems with the cheap stuff compared to my 870.
 
contemplating getting one. I see lots of negative reviews from 2009, especially on the non-tactical version. Then I read the write up in a new Shooting Times magazine of the M887 Tactical and it looks good, and also see recent good postings here...
 
I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm happy with mine. I mean, it looks beastly, and it works. I hope if you pick one up, that you'll like it as much as I like mine!
 
Does anybody know if any manuf. has or is planning to make a AR style stock for this thing?? Or if there's some sort of adapter piece that will allow you to use a Knoxx or something meant for an 870?

I've been looking all over! I love this gun but that'd just make it so much better!!
